Related: About this forumAny idea as to when this damn heatwave will end??
I haven't listened to the weather because all they talk about is how hot it is-- I know that. What I'd like to know is when it will subside.

(1,790 posts)Here in Sacramento we are expecting 109 for Monday and Tuesday, and 111 on Wednesday.
Thursday will be down to 102, which is still 10 degrees above normal.
And then we are expected to still be in the 100's for another 3-4 days. And most of the West will be like this.
Death Valley hit 130 and is the highest Temp in the last 100 years.

Thank you, padfun. I believe I can endure (almost) anything if I know there's an end to it.
I grew up in Davis so I am familiar with how incredibly hot it can get-- when I'd open the front door, it would be like a blast furnace!
Needless to say, I am not a fan of summer.
Stay cool & safe

(9,683 posts)We're in the inland NW. And here I thought we were going to escape August relatively unscathed. At least we've had very little wildfire smoke.

(22,901 posts)July was so perfect and mild-- I was thinking maybe we'd get away with sweltering temperatures.
Oh well...

(9,683 posts)In fact, for the last two years June and July weren't bad at all.

(9,683 posts)as I was typing my wildfire comment, I had a fleeting thought that maybe I shouldn't. Well, here this evening a bunch of smoke blew in from the West. I should've known.
I think it might be from the Indian Creek fire which started yesterday near Vale, Oregon and is currently 10% contained at 9,000 acres.
Maybe it should, but probably won't, keep me from piping up in the future. Oh well.

(51,648 posts)Day number 5 of fever. So cold that when I write my writing looks like tRump's jagged signature. Getting tested tomorrow (after 8 hours of trying to find a test site). The secret...LIE! The manager at a nation wide chain of pharmacies told me to do this, and not tell anyone, and it worked. Say you have every symptom not even 7 will get you tested. Severe shortages!!!!!
Super hot, then freezing cold within minutes. It is making me write poorly and fall over.

(51,648 posts)you should see the pile of smelly PJ's and t-shirts. I won't be able to use the public laundry in my apt complex for a loooong time since I am so weak (I have to hold onto walls for support) and quarantining until I get results of test.

(51,648 posts)I wish you could. The nurse at the 211 hotline told me to ignore my doctor (what?!) who told me only to get tested for "curiosity's sake" and not to bother and if I have a fever next week he will see me via my tablet. Lovely!
The 211 nurse told me more than once, "Get tested NOW!" on Sat. It took until today to get a test site, there ARE shortages (thanks to 6 months of "no-plan, do-nothing tRump" .

(14,858 posts)... when I was there. It felt worse than Florida! (It was probably the 100+ temp that made it feel so bad, plus I was acclimated to the far cooler coastal temps by then.) Very surprising to me given California's reputation for being so dry.

I went to Big Sur and Point Reyes National Park a few Summers ago for hiking/camping, and the cool Pacific Ocean made it so comfortable! (More humid at Point Reyes.)
Then I drove the rental car to Sacramento for the flight home. OMG, it was hot! The shuttle bus driver also directed me to get off at the wrong location of the airport, pretty much as far away from my flight as possible. By that time, I had already put my backpack in a big duffel bag for easier transport by the airline. So I was carrying that heavy bag in one hand and a carry-on bag in the other hand. By the time that I reached the bag check-in area, I was perspiring profusely and I was struggling to cool off.
I immediately headed to the TSA checkpoint because various delays (the shuttle bus fiasco was just one of them) made me concerned that I could miss the flight.
The TSA employees all seemed to be convinced that I was up to no good, mostly because of my constant perspiring! "You are sweating a lot and seem nervous, sir. Why?" No matter how many times I explained my previous speed-walking with a LOT of weight in my hands, and while exposed to so much heat, they remained skeptical. They put me through all kinds of inspections that other people avoided. Then when that was finally over and I reached my terminal, a better-dressed agent also approached me to inquire about my time in California and my immediate plans now. Lol.
Anyway, yeah... the heat in Sacramento was severe. What a dramatic change from the coastal areas!
Edit: Plus they'd never seen the various electronic gadgets in my carry-on bag --e.g., "That's an antenna device to watch local TV on my laptop." Then they looked suspicious, like it was probably some kind of detonator instead. Lol.
