Del Monte plant in Sanger evacuated after ammonia leak

Academy Avenue near Sanger was reopened Friday morning after it was closed due to an ammonia leak at the Del Monte plant.

The leak was still being evaluated Friday morning. Sanger Fire Chief Greg Tarascou said his department was continuing to work with the Del Monte plant management to limit damage from the leak, which started Thursday around 7 p.m.

Employees at the Del Monte plant in Sanger were evacuated after the roof of the plant had collapsed.

Traffic in the corner of Academy Avenue near North Avenue was diverted away from the area as police, fire and other authorities worked to clear the scene.
