(55,030 posts)long boring story but the county actually put it up last spring. so now I have to vote for another damn repuke - heh - actually my county supe is running unopposed so I don't have to vote for him at all if I want a clearer Democratic conscience, but he is actually a good guy so I may mark his spot on the ballot
gave up an access for crossing under the interstate for that fence, but not having morons calling me every night about cattle on the OPEN RANGE 1/4 mile of that road is pretty much worth it. They put in a little cattle-guard too.
its keeping trashy "picnickers" out of the wash too so THAT is nice. The trash and junk that used to get dumped is another reason the county was helpful about the new fence. Just off the interstate was a great place to pull in, park and apparently clean your vehicle of 1000s of miles of travel garbage, diapers, you name it.

(53,661 posts)And the bulls only thought it was suggestion, they walked it down a couple of times despite my broke ass repairs. It'd be like that scen in Jurassic Park where the T-Rex went through the fence - ping - ping - ping.
And then it was time to let them into the field across the road to their duty by the cows over there. But there was no traffic where I lived, often for weeks at a time.
I didn't know the state (county) would do such a thing, but you did give them something for it. Glad to escape the trash, that sounded really gross...
How did the festival thing nearby go? Did you blow a lot of money buying souvenirs? Post pics!

(55,030 posts)to cost share on new fence along county roads. I stalled for a long time because of the access issue, but finally caved because the traffic up there was just getting insane and stuff was getting hit and I was starting to worry about somebody getting killed so I applied to get the fencing supplies (and we would provide the labor). Of course they lost the first app then turned me down when I sent the second. Apparently our little section of that road was never legally deeded to the county. I threatened to put a toll booth up there I dropped it for other more important issues for a couple years. I mean the thing had been there and was open range for at least 50 years. (and it is really only about a 1/3 of a mile)
Finally one day one of the neighbors who actually lives closer to that road called and was all pissed at me because of the garbage in the above mentioned wash. He had hired some guy to go clean it up (our property!) well, that kind of freaked me out as I try to be a good neighbor, but picking up trash along a road I rarely see is low on my priority list. I sent an e-mail to our County supervisor and said the neighbor has hired somebody to clean up trash, can we at least get a waiver for the dump, told him my troubles with the fence program and asked if there was anything he could do. He replied he would see what he could find out. Next think I knew there was a work crew up there on a weekend clearing brush and setting posts. They worked two weekends and got that all in then came a couple weeks later and set the cattle-guard.
Bulls will walk through a wire fence like it was a spiderweb when they are motivated, but a good tight sharp one will hold most if there isn't too much temptation on the other side. I have one young one I caught out on the road the other day that jumped back in when I tried to take him to the gate so they can go over as easy as through one for that matter.
I like him but he has now been confirmed to have jumped two fences, so he may need to go bye-bye before he gets in trouble. this is him, George. (heh, walking along a cross fence that is being rebuilt/repaired by my son - who really needs to get that loose wire off the ground and out of the trail)

(53,661 posts)I can't spell the name right, it's been a long time. Has he done his duty by the cows yet? Hope he doesn't have to go... bye bye any time soon. Does look rather placid and in fine shape.

(55,030 posts)We need to buy some new bulls but we keep some of our calves too. Just a mixed up commercial herd.

(53,661 posts)Angus are the standby. Still, that bull is by no means a scrub, IMHO. Have you got any brahma blood in the mix?
Good for south Texas climate, don't know if they are good for a desert area, though.

(55,030 posts)that is why I did not put my good one from 08 up there where people really park and mess around. I didn't like that light blue with such small print all that much anyway. But still...
going to print some stuff on regular paper to replace it for the weekend.

(55,030 posts)I put it in the center of the back of the cab on the spare pick-up, but I told the kids to put it in the glove box if they were going to be parked and out of sight for very long anywhere.
the main truck still has the regular sticky one from 08 and I added one of the smaller orange Spanish ones just to stick it to the racists here in AZ.
