I recorded True Detective, very disappointed.

I did not watch last season, but kept hearing how good it was.
I figured I could watch the new season and be able to understand it.

Well...I felt like I had jumped into the middle of a movie. I never did figure out who was who or what was going on.

So I took it off the recording schedule. Too many other shows around. So either I am not very smart or their show was confusing. And gloomy.

I did like it. Where could this be going? I'm drawn in already!

Shades of Season One, but completely different.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but so much better than "NCIS SUV Law and Order" crap. And that "Downtown Abby" stuff!

11. Hubby and I agree. We did watch the first season, and enjoyed it.

I did read a review on this season that said it was very different from the first.

We'll give it another episode or two, just because nothing else we watch is on now.

4. Jack Graham's post about season 2 pretty much extinguished any desire I had to check it out.

Review here: http://shabogangraffiti.blogspot.com/2015/06/oh-fuck-off.htm

The condensed version:
"Season One’s undoubted quality was marred by the stock and shallow nature of the woman characters, by the show’s unrelenting focus on manfeels and manpain and the tortured, disoriented experience of masculinity in a world where the traditional masculine virtues are no longer zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

And you actually seem to have taken note of the criticism. So for Season Two you’ve given us a woman character as co-lead. She’s one of the three cops whose paths converge at the end of the first episode, and will presumably end up investigating this season’s plot alongside (in some sense) the highway patrolman one who can’t get his willy to go hard (at least in non-abusive situations) and the hard-drinking, miserable, semi-criminal Colin Farrell one.

But her bits of the episode are the weakest by far. By far. Noticeably weak, melodramatic, straightforward and rubbish compared to the less-scrutable strands concerning the other two. So jarringly crap that they almost seem to belong to a different, inferior show ..."

"Can we please stop getting drama about how hard it is to be a white dude in a post-myth, post-heroic world where white dudes are no longer allowed any dreams? About how unfair it is that the bitch ex-wife who blames you for shit that wasn't your fault meanspiritedly insists upon marrying a new guy who isn't a total wanker... and sadistically insists you pay alimony... and satanically tries to restrict your ability to bully and harangue your son?"

When you are confused, go to reddit. The first season of the show was amazing. I'm still willing to give this season a chance, we are only one episode in, after all.

deleted it and removed the timer. I have better uses for my time. It just held no interest.
Vince Vaughn? Really?

I keep hoping it picks up. The last few minutes of the episodes are the best parts so far, which isn't good lol! I can't stand Vaughn either, and he's barely even acting in this.

Much easier to follow, less pretentious, more interesting characters and dialogue.
