The show has broken a 22-year long record on the Fox Network, becoming first the first show since 1993 to actually increase its ratings, and the number of viewers, the following 2 weeks, after the premiere episode.
As TV-by-the-Numbers reported (HERE), this sort of thing is practically unprecedented in modern television history." The show premiered with a 3.8 adult 18-49 rating, but then climbed to a 4.0 for its second episode, and then jumped again to a 4.4 rating for its third episode

Anyone else watching? I love this show & it looks by those numbers that many others might too.

(4,178 posts)Does it make a difference to see the beginning or would jumping now make sense?

(54,770 posts)It's pretty good overall, and the music is very good. I usually get bored with series after awhile, but we'll see.
I was surprised when I started watching this -- at a friends suggestion -- because I thought it is a 1920s gangster show for some reason. Other than the Untouchables, can't stand shows from that period.

(1,634 posts)It's so good, Denzell Washington is in talks with the producer to sign on. The last time I can remember TV being this good was back in the days of the original Dallas.
Cookie's my favorite!

(29,658 posts)reminds me of another show I DID QUIT watching was "Last Man Standing" because of all the horrible references to POTUS. Just couldn't handle it, and my husband and I used to love "Tim the tool man Taylor". Ugh, not now..... he's not funny and the show is just bad. Will try to catch up on Empire it sounds like a good show.

(32,973 posts)I am way not in their desired demographic. Hensen as Cookie & Howard as Lucious are almost excellent, Jussie Smollet as Jamal is very good; the other 2 brothers, Bryshere Gray as youngest brother Hakeem, and Trai Byers are still underdrawn to me, but it's been less then 3 hours and a very large cast, so there is time.
The cinematography and music are excellent, the post production values are really really high quality. I am very glad to know it has already been renewed for next year.

(32,973 posts)I really like this show, the music is very good, I'm liking how each of the singing brothers style is similar but distinctive enough to blend well. spoiler below.

.1.the scene where Cookie was taken away by the court bailiffs, Lucious singing to her and the ending scene with her, alone, softly singing in her prison cell, good writing, character development/explanation.
2.the musical family members singing together, the non musical member, watching, his face, such complex emotions and body language
3.Jamal & Lucious, @ the white party, dressed fit for the Shah of Iran, Luscious telling Jamal to tell the truth in his music, Jamal talking his advice and coming out in the family song and the homophobic fathers' face changing when he hears his advice coming back in Jamals truth. Liscious flashing back to his horror and literally trash canning his son when he realized his son was gay.
4.Jamals' suicide attempt and break down.
5. These actors and writers are freaking good.
6. Why hasn't anyone written fan fiction yet?
