ABC broke into regular programming!!! For the Queen's balcony speech???

When I heard the Dum-dum-dum music I thought something terrible had happened. I'm feeling a bit resentful now, frankly, for having my chain pulled that way.

Sheesh! We're not a frickin' colony anymore--it's a cute tourist schtick, it's a morale-builder for the British nation...but really, couldn't we cover this during the news hour? Must it be LIVE?

2. Actually, she didn't say a thing -- at least not during the coverage ABC provided!

They just did a frigging fly-over. But sure--AR could take a lesson!!!

I really thought it was a bogus reason to break into regular programming. I wasn't terribly invested in the programming, either--I just turned on the television and for a brief second was treated to an "Oh shit--what NOW?" moment.

I hate being played like that.

3. I can assure you it was better than whatever was on ABC at the time

Unless they interrupted a more worthy news story, I think its worth breaking into Live with Kelly or Rachel Ray, to show the Queen.

But I guess the question is, what is worth interrupting TV shows for. I think that bar is pretty low.

4. They interrupted Sal from Mad Men on Nate Berkus! Baasstids!

I don't watch the NB show as a rule, but I enjoyed Sal on Mad Men, I thought his character was well articulated and very complex, and I was sad to see him fired from the agency, and curious if he'll be coming back to the show (especially after last week and the week previous shows' events) ...guess it will stay a mystery for now!

5. Maybe they will post it on the show's website

Though I think all we can expect to see of Sal is a quick one show appearance, if that.

6. I'd love to see Sal come back in the Swinging Sixties!

Or even the less-swinging but very political seventies!

7. I wonder how long it will go on

I mean we know that AMC and the producers have said only 2 more seasons, so we know that we only have maybe 24-25 hours left with these wonderful characters. I meant how long in the show's timeline. Its January 1967. He usually moves the show forward a bit in the off season. I love the characters, but I love how the 60s are the backdrop to the show. In 1967 we have the Ali Vietnam issue, Sgt Pepper is released, Loving v. Virginia allows interracial marriage, the race and war protest riots and much more. Then in 1968 they have to cover MLK and Kennedy getting killed, along with a host of other events. I imagine they will go up until Woodstock and the moon landing, but that is a lot of time to cover in 2 seasons.

8. I think they're going to take it up to the early seventies.

Thought I read that somewhere, but I am not positive.

10. I think the producer (Matthew Weiner) said he wanted to be done in seven seasons

So, that gives him two more years to make it to the seventies!

11. It is absolutely only 2 more seasons

AMC and Weiner have been clear since season 3 that the show would only go 7 seasons. More importantly Jon Hamm has said he would rather not go longer than that. Thats a lot of ground to move in 2 seasons, but it would be great.

On a side note, I hope they all come to the light and add an 8th season. I can not get enough of it.

12. Apparently they've been averaging eighteen months per season, give or take.

So, if we're in 1967 now, that would bring us up to 1970.

I'm amazed we haven't seen Don in a Nehru jacket yet! Well, there's still time for his trendy new bride to coax him into one!

I'm a sucker for these sorts of series, myself--everything from Sopranos to Rome to Dexter to Nurse Jackie to Breaking Bad to Downton Abbey...I'm there! I was even there for Rome (pissed when the set burned down and cancelled that wondrous adventure) and Deadwood (I'll never forgive HBO for fucking that up) and Carnivale (another one that should have had its day properly). I even hung in there for John From Cincinnati--didn't quite get the point all the time, but I wasn't bored. Of course, HBO screwed that one up, too! As a consequence, I took a holiday from paying for HBO--I may renew it if I can get a good deal. I love that AMC is providing quality viewing--I am 'enjoying' (despite the creepy title) The Killing as well.

I'm with you--I could handle an eighth season of MM, too! I'd like to see Sal reappear on the scene!

I haven't quite been motivated to check out Game Of Thrones, but I understand some people like it. I seem to gravitate more to "quasi-real" stuff, and that seems a bit too fantastical for me. I may play catch up if I can get it on disk at the off season when I'm off in a place with no cable.
