1. Nice feature set for the price

But not really a G16 killer, it's a camera for a compleatly different user. Superzooms are more of a consumer camera and the G16 is a P&S for a photographer.

But I do like that Olympus does allow you to save in Raw which a lot of superzooms don't and I do like the wifi with the interactive app.

3. Look at the Specs. The LCD tilts and the viewfinder is the same as the OMD.

It also has a constant 2.8

Olympus Stylus 1 key features

12MP 1/1.7"-type BSI CMOS sensor
28-300mm equivalent optically-stabilized F2.8 lens
Two-mode (click/free turning) control dial
Built-in 3 EV Neutral Density filter
1.44M dot LCD electronic viewfinder
1.04M dot 3" tilting touchscreen rear LCD
ISO 100 - 12800
Built-in Wi-Fi with smartphone control

I owned the Canon G10 it was a very good camera, but if I had to do it again, the Stylus1 would win out with its huge viewfinder. The one offered on the Canon is pitiful. That was my only complaint with the G10.

but strictly from a marketing standpoint P&S's and Bridge cameras are completely different marketing segments. The Canon won't be the only camera in the camera bag of a photographer, it's a part of the arsenal, the Olympus is for people who want to up their game from taking cell phone shots while still maintaining the the connectivity that they are use to.

8. I think it will have appeal as the second camera in the bag. The viewfinder will be a selling point.

I'd want the Ricoh GR as my "second" camera.

I'll be playing with the Sony QX10 and QX100, it's more the direction I see myself going and I know I will probably never buy a big ass DSLR again now that the Sony a7R is about to ship.

10. The Oly EM1 would be as big as I'd want to go.

If I get a good deal on the Ricoh GR or Fuji X100s, I might go that way. Knowing how cheap I am, the Oly EPM2 or EPL5 will probably be what I buy.

Still, I hold out hope that Canon will make something appealing enough for me to jump back.

It's not Nikonnon. It doesn't count as a 'real' camera.

I gave my neice an Oly E-520 w two lens kit & FL flash. Her high school friend said, "Nice, but MINE'S a Nikon." She had a CoolPix.

5. I'm so glad we don't do the brand battles

here. It is part of what makes this one of the best photo-groups around. I almost forgot there is a world of brand specific people out there that would let a name get in the way of having a great camera. I feel sorry for your niece's friend and hope you have more influence on your niece than she does. ~Says the person with a Nikon DSLR she loves and Coolpix she didn't particularly care for so gave to her husband.

Looks like a neat camera and easy to handle with room for a beginner to grow and expand as they learn yet keep an experienced photographer happy if they didn't want to lug around gear.
