(2,173 posts)But I haven't seen any of the other woodpeckers around lately. We should be getting the bluebirds back soon. They usually show up late March-early May. We don't put out food. Our garden IS their food. They don't eat much of our crops, but the soil produces a buffet of creepy crawlies for them to munch on and the seed-eaters are more than happy with our perennial bed.

(2,950 posts)our place in Harnett County. Unfortunately, I am at my home in Utah & all I see are sparrows and a few rosy finch.
I do have the Northern Flickers, one I call Spot. In the past I had goldfinch, but quit putting out thistle seed because the ducks chewed the grass down to the dirt. I eventually had my hubby make me a spot down by the water to feed, sans the thistle. I miss the goldfinch, so think I may start putting feed out for them.
I noticed a sparrow was checking out the bird box today, so I am going to see about getting a bird condo type contraption. Maybe I can encourage more bird families.
