it's Salty Dog night.

About a month ago we had a tornado in the town where I live and it was about a mile away. This past weekend a tornado came over the Catholic church that is about two blocks away from me and tore up some trees on the roads in my neighborhood. The next time there is stormy weather in the neighborhood I intend to wear a T-shirt with a bullseye target on it so that God/Mother Nature/whomever can get a better bead on me.

That's not anywhere close to good! I'm sorry to hear it. Keep your head down brother!

I know where you're coming from though, I've been working in Misery lately....I mean Missouri. There's been a few tornados in the greater St Louis area lately. Sirens went off a week ago, and my phone told me to take shelter Monday night Tuesday morning. Crazy thing is, I'm from an area that doesn't get them and I really want to see one! Not up close of course......

Be safe brother.

when it came across the golf course on the other side of the campus.

Probably the worst thing that I ever saw was when I was 5 years old and Hurricane Celia hit the Corpus Christi area. It uprooted the big oak tree in the front yard of the house we were renting and swept away the garage at the back of the house. I was about 50 miles inland, but that hurricane broke the wind gauges at 181 mph.

I got no interest in hurricanes. I've always been fascinated by tornados though. There's a primal kind of beauty that I can't quite describe. Don't get me wrong, I wish we never had to deal with them. But seeing mother nature like that.....

I wish I could play the banjo half as well as she does, let alone her fiddle playing and incredible voice.

The great thing about her singing is that she's conservatory trained (Oberlin IIRC), but unlike most classical vocalists singing in a vernacular style, she retains the power and projection, while losing the vibrato and inflections that sound artificial and mannered outside of the opera.
