My vintage booth is approaching a milestone

We've sold almost 1000 items. since we started the booth in Aug/22. Most of the items are small, most are $10 or less. My goal is downsizing and that seems like a pretty good start. I'm planning to give a small gift certificate to the person who buys the 1000th item. No fanfare or anything, just a small recognition that the booth is working for us.

Earlier today I spoke with a friend who, along with her husband, has made the huge decision to move into an independent living place. They, like so many of us, have lots and lots and lots of stuff to get rid of. I've advised her to find local companies in her area who do cleaning out, reselling, and repurposing stuff that people have. I looked into this about two years ago when helping my brother and his wife move from their home of some 40 years.

5. an estate sales company is always happy to help downsize. for a fee of course

but they might make you some money at the end of the day too.

8. I'm downsizing stuff I don't want

I'm not moving, unless I find an isolated house. If I ever move, I'll take what I want to keep, and have the rest sold. My husband and I collected for over 40 years, and I collected from when I was about 8. The last few years before he got sick, we bought several large lots. We thought we were getting bargains, but it was the beginning of the downsize era, so we ended up with a lot of stuff, some hard to sell. I got to sort during the Covid lockdown, and sold 3 or 4 big lots, and still have way more of things to send along. I've also donated to several places, and put free boxes out on the sidewalk on nice days. Still have a lot to go.

Having the vintage booth gives me a reason to sort and another place to put things. I've joked to my friends that it is storage with benefits. lol

9. The first ten years I was married, we moved

approximately every two years. That kept me from acquiring too much stuff, or holding on to things I had no use for. When my marriage came to an end, and I decided to move from Kansas to New Mexico, I rented a small storage unit and started putting things in there that I wanted to take with me, including things like my good china, books, various sentimental items.

I live in a small (about 900 square feet) two bedroom home. Whenever I move into independent/assisted living, I will have to downsize somewhat more. Several years ago I promoted my wedding china to being my everyday china, so that is absolutely coming with me. Other stuff will require more consideration.
