What do you use for cat and dog flea treatment?

I need advice for cat and dog flea treatment.

We have one 6 yr old dog, male, fixed, 25 pounds (chiweinie).

Three cats:

One 13 yr old fixed male, 15 pounds.
One 8 month old female, 10 pounds.
One 4 months old male, 3 pounds.

Flea are starting early in North Texas. The dog and older cat go outside to potty. The two younger cats are inside only cats. We have a big back yard we are planning to also treat.

I used to use frontline on my 2 female cocker-mini-pins, and it would cause them to have seizures. so I asked the vet what else would work, he told me, bathe them in dawn dish soap, it works like a charm.

They can recommend which products are best for each specific pet in your local environment. Better safe than sorry if you inadvertently choose the wrong stuff.

Probably the least toxic. It uses flea "birth control" It prevents the eggs from hatching. It does not kill adult fleas. It works great
when you use in conjunction with regular bathing. Also is a heart worm medication.

They are good for eight months. Advantage will work for your outdoor cat. Vet explained that these products also act as herd immunity for indoor cats.

Two doses, one every three months. Goes in his food. No reaction of any kind. Works for ticks and fleas, but it was expensive, close to $100.

Works like a charm - Zeus has never had a flea or tick - and costs about half of the name brands.

But you have little dogs, one being a senior citizen of the dog world. follow your vet's advice

Our elderly cats don't go outside and we haven't had any cats come inside.

It used to be a miracle flea treatment.

Ain't evolution great?

Our oldest dog is allergic to fleas, just a few fleas will make her miserable, so I recently bought some expensive stuff from our vet and I'm waiting to see how effective it is.

I would take the cats to the vet and let them be treated in house so they can make the sure they are not allergic.

I almost lost mine 2 years ago cause she was allergic to an OTC brand

Nitenpyram works like Capstar - very safe kills all fleas w/i 24 hrs - safe for multiple use and for nursing dogs.

Lufenuron stops fleas from developing chitin.

Initial outbreak I treat with a Nitenpyram capsule.
When no more fleas(usually next day), severe outbreaks may take several doses,
start the monthly regime of Lufenuron and use nitenpyram to kill any new outbreaks.
May take a few months before fleas are eradicated.

We have 2 dogs. This will be our 4th summer since I started this regime and rarely do we need a nitenpyram cap anymore.
These products are available here at VERY reasonable prices.
She has been forced by FDA working in concert with big
pharma to pull all mention of the over priced products these replace.
