Every time I've been in a McDonald's in the early morning, no matter where I am in the country, almost without fail I will see a group of old men there hanging out and drinking coffee.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that. On the contrary, I think it would be interesting to hear what they are talking about. You never know, in another 25 years I might be one of them.

We were amazed to see at least two what I would call worship services (among friends) going on. I was a bit astounded but based on the reaction of the locals this must be a norm.
But we do have local diners where there is always a clatch of older men in the morning.

(64,931 posts)I guess I haven't been around much for awhile. Been a rough few weeks as my father-in-law passed away last weekend. My wife was there for him and her mother when he died.
Maybe they are just talking about stuff like that, and coffee is only $0.99 for a small cup, which in those styrofoam cups will stay warm for half a morning. Or they could be talking about the Cubs and Indians. Who knows, as long as they are good friends having time together.

(29,655 posts)Just asking...... and really what determines old for the younger people to say, there's an old person??

(17,193 posts)Personally, I find "old" not demeaning at all. I flinch whenever I hear "x years young," however.

I won't cast aspersions on the guys at the Kountry Kettle on 47 in Elburn IL, but in my experience the kitchen staff can't even do a simple Sunnyside-up egg. I don't drink coffee but that must be the sole redeeming thing there?!

(47,552 posts)One of 'em's a raging MAGA. Another of 'em is the guy who points out he's wrong by asking him questions about his assertions. And the third guy is the silent eye-roller. He's the one I exchange smiles with. The other two are always busy.
