(20,184 posts)Back in the early 60s. Here's an interview with Mavis.
https://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2016/06/28/mavis-staples-reflects-luck-love-and-marriage-proposal-from-bob-dylan/zvXHRTerjIl6tlpdXpopaO/story.html
"We were doing a TV show in New York for ABC, and we were all standing outside, and his manager said to him, I want you to meet the Staple Singers. And Bob said, I know them; Ive been listening to them since I was 12 years old.
We talked; he talked a lot to my brother. After that day, he told my father he wanted to marry me."

(10,098 posts)I thought Bob was actually really good at the one I went. I wasn't real happy with the standards he is singing, but he sang a lot of songs off Tempest, which I think has some good songs. Early Roman Kings was rocking, Pay in Blood, he did a few classics and his voice was great the night I saw him on a hot summer night outside in a beautiful setting. Like I said, not a fan of the standards, but the man does what he wants to do. This one was 10 times better than the last one I saw when I told myself as much as I love the guy, I'm not going to go see him again. That is the story of his shows for a long time, hit or miss. He's 75 and still touring all over the damn world, crazy.
But Mavis was fun and had a great set!
Peace

(3,072 posts)Believe by Mumford and Sons. I don't really care for the rest of that album, since I liked their old folk rock style but this song is really good.

Like Denny Doherty of The Mamas and the Papas, Yarbrough had a honey voice that was lost too soon.

Pulling out actual discs and changing them every 40 minutes or so. Such a hassle. I feel like its 2007 again.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)That's so much music that they put the changer in the trunk, lol!

Since I am listening to the JB box set Beckology, I guess I will go with this Yardbirds version of Train Kept a Rollin'

(27,805 posts)to me, his lyrics sound so contrived. "Where you going to, my Lady Blue?" That would make me jump out of the cab!
