I was leaving an exam room the other day in clinic, and my patient shouted: "Love you!"

"Love you back!" I replied.

I've got the greatest job in the world...

Sometimes, I wish I was President Bartlet, so I'd have an excuse to say: "Now I get to declare a National Day of Thanksgiving."

How cool is that?

When your patients appreciate you that much.....well, it just doesn't get much better!

Congrats!

Had to go into hospital, had an operation, had wonderful care (and it didn't "cost" much...thank you, socialised medicine).

Buit the heroes of this story are the doctors, nurses, technicians, personal care assistants, cleaners (and anyone I've missed) who looked after me.

So, thank you, Aristus and your colleagues. You're brilliant!!

And I put the word "cost" in quotes because I am well aware that I had been making contributions for years hoping that I'd never get to receive any return. But sometime life just bites you.

to work today when someone complimented me. They said they had seen me on the street and I looked like I had lost quite a bit of weight and that I looked great. I was flying high for a few hours on that. Bought a salad for dinner tonight in light of being healthier.

I'm signed up for discount health care services with residents. Not sure I made the right decision.

I've been told before by several of my patients that just being treated like a human being makes them feel better. I've become a passionate advocate for the rights of the homeless.

I have to admit, shame-facedly, that despite being a proud-out-loud bleeding-heart liberal, I used to be one of those 'why-don't-they-just-go-get-a-job?' types. Working with the homeless community has opened my eyes to the realities of life on the streets. For example, many homeless people do have jobs. But whatever income they earn isn't enough to get them off the streets.

My job has made me a better liberal, and, maybe, a better person...

I wish more doctors had your compassion and empathy. Maybe many do, but are overwhelmed by all the red-tape and constrictions placed upon them. It takes courage to treat people as equals and equally worthy.

(And maybe some day I'll remember to use the new spell check.)

...always hugs my neck when I leave. I've cried on her shoulder a few times. She's great. She also took care of my father prior to his death. Love her too. Good Medical Professionals are hard to come by.
It's awesome you're awesome too!
