The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI moved in to this apartment, on February 1rst, 1992.
The walls were repainted, the entire building had the insulation upgraded, and the doors were replaced.
I just plain enjoy being here, I pay $400 a month, water and sewer included, and I can have 2 cats!
It's also on the ground floor, so no staircase.
Lots of things happened between 1992 and now.
And I will no doubt (unless I need to go into a nursing home,) be here another 24 years from now.

It sounds perfect for you, and your two cats.

(46,327 posts)Since this building originally was an 8-room motel, I have 2 large rooms, my bedroom, and my kitchen/media room.
I also have my own water heater, washer/dryer, large 3-door closet, shower but no tub.
Good neighbors too.

(53,339 posts)My building managemnt is great. When rents came down in the area and I noticed my building was offering units like mine cheaper, I went to the manager and asked for a rent reduction. She called the owner and backed me up, tellng them I was her best tenant, never late, never a problem and did my own maintenance. They cut my rent $75, which I figured would soon pay for my mew computer. Now it's done that and a lot more. And I've never had a rent increase since I moved in more than 10 years ago.

(46,327 posts)And so affectionate, one of her favorite things to do is jump up on my lap, purr, and lick my nose.
And does she give me the head rubs, I call it a "smooch."
Raven is just about as affectionate, but she doesn't lick my nose.

(17,193 posts)Still have the original refrigerator, and it still works fine. The other appliances, alas, failed sooner or later.
When I moved in, rent was 250.00/month including utilities. Central air, pool, and a free gym for residents. All-electric appliances including a dishwasher. Two bedrooms. And we got a discount at the restaurant that was part of the complex.
Now utilities are extra, the restaurant closed, the pool is open about two months a year for about six hours a day, the gym closed (but re-opened when fitness became a Thing again), and the a/c doesn't use freon anymore, and so is pretty feeble (being 40 years old doesn't help). The rent ain't 250 a month, either.
And I still have really ugly avocado plush carpet. Well, at least it isn't shag. Since I have bookshelves against almost every wall and an uncountable number of books, I haven't had a new coat of paint since moving in, either. No way I can move all that stuff so the maintenance men can get at the walls.
