Like the ones ABC, CBS, or NBC used when featuring movies on television.
ABC
NBC
CBS
We used to have VHS tapes full of movies that had these bumpers, and lately the ABC one has been a bit of an earworm.
Not sure what they use these days for movie bumpers or even if they use them at all since I don't often watch network TV. But these brought back some memories.

(7,570 posts)Slitscan effects and music by Burt Bacharach. They don't make nice things like this anymore.

(14,061 posts)Bacharach wrote it for his daughter. I have it on a Bacharach collection and it's one of my favorites of his.
I remember all of those bumpers very well. And as I recall, some of the ABC Movies of the Week were quite groundbreaking for that time -- "That Certain Summer" and "Brian's Song" come immediately to mind.

(14,061 posts)I've seen it countless times, and when I know it's going to be on I make a point to always DVR it, or watch it.
Spielberg's early genius shown on a small screen. I enjoyed the movie much more than the short story it was based on, and I can rarely say that.
Still keeps me on the edge of my seat after all these years.
ON EDIT: "ABC Movie of the Week" was one of the better programs on network TV back in the day. For the most part the movies were well-written, with A-list casts, and as I said, groundbreaking in a lot of respects. I miss TV like that.

(7,570 posts)"Bad Ronald" and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" were two other creepy classics that the whole family could enjoy. They remade the latter a couple of years ago, but it was nowhere near as effective as the original.
I believe The ABC Movie of the Week also gave us the Six Million Dollar Man and Starsky and Hutch, two of my favorite TV shows as a kid.
The 70s were GREAT. The youngsters today don't know what they missed out on.

(14,061 posts)Just think of all the powerhouse lineups the networks had in that decade, especially CBS. If memory serves, Saturday night was All in the Family, MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, The Bob Newhart Show, and Carol Burnett. Unbeatable. ABC had a similar setup on Friday night that worked into 1975, I think, starting with The Brady Bunch and ending with Love, American Style.

I probably had six Farrah posters in my room--the famous one and others that I collected here and there.
Sounds like you and I had similar "misspent" youths in front of the tube.

(82,849 posts)You didn't know which movie it would be until the announcer came on (unless you cheated and consulted TV Guide, but that was cheating, Marty, you big cheater).
