I still hold that Kirks STEAKburgers in Campbell/Palo Alto is the best. Something about a 1/2 lb burger that STAYS 1/2 lb after cooking is just awesome.
Second to that, for me, would be In-N-Out. Best damn chain burger EVER!
Five Guys is OK. Better than Burger King/McDonalds or Wendys. I guess I just don't like the whole quantity to the extreme thing....
How about you?

(33,688 posts)is amazing. Every time I get to Vegas or LA, it is one of the first places I go. The burgers are juicy, beefy and marvelous. The fries are heaven-sent and the shakes are fabulous.. The Zen simplicity of the menu is a thing of beauty in itself.

Their own blend of beef, jalapeno bacon, gorgonzola, buffalo sauce, onion straws and chipotle crema on freshly made buns and fresh cut fries.
For you veggies (or not!) they also have an awesome eggplant parmesan sandwich: homemade eggplant parmesan, pesto sauce, sun dried tomato, fresh mozzarella and mixed greens.
Damn...and I have a muffin for lunch.
NO PICS FOR YOU!!!! ('cause I don't have any)

(12,132 posts)and with my daughter. My wife thinks they are too greasy but that's part of what I like.
You can get a single if a regular is too much.
I like being able to see the guy cook it right in front of me. Makes me feel psychologically safer even if it is no safer in reality.
I get a Cheeseburger (for those not in the know, a cheeseburger is a double by default) with:
lettuce
Mayo
A1 steak sauce
grilled mushrooms
jalapenos
I only get them a couple times a year - not even once a month. It's a rare treat for me. The fries are ridiculous - we always split one order of fries between at least 2 people and 3 would not feel cheated.
I have a strong suspicion that I would love both Kirk's and In n Out if I ever get a chance to try them. Either of them near Vegas? I'll be going there in June if everything goes as planned....
eta: Oh I just saw Hifiguy's post about InO being in Vegas. Sweet! That wil be one I can finally cross off the list - been hearing about them for so long....

(33,688 posts)Just went to one a couple of months ago when I was at a trade show there.
It is definitely worth the trip if you're in Sin City. Also, if you like Thai food, check out Lotus of Siam when you're in Vegas. I had one of the best meals in my life there, and that includes traveling in France and some multi-starred restaurants here in the US.

(14,400 posts)the disgusting looking, and some may say sounding, steamed cheeseburgers at Teds in Meriden CT.
Five Guys is good but Jacks Wayback Burgers have been making a move into CT and I've found it very good.
http://waybackburgers.com/menu/
Now, if I want to go in, sit down and have a burger, I'll say the best I've had is at Plan B Burger Bar in Glastonbury CT, not only is the food damned good it's the only burger place I've ever gone where you can order a Manhattan and they'll not only ask you if you want it with Rye or Bourbon but follow up with "What kind of Rye or Bourbon would you like"

That said, it always tastes better if someone else does the work. It's a character flaw, I guess.

(6,145 posts)I went to the in In-n-out near Google last summer and it was the first time. Very good but I really don't think it measured up to the hype. It kind of reminded me of Dairy Queen.
Kirk's looks like the real deal though. Thanks for the tip.

(54,256 posts)My buddy's son raises several beef cattle every year.
We put our order in and split one.
Comes all processed, packaged, and flash frozen.
At a cost of about $2.60/lb. total to us.
I get steaks, roasts, ribs, hamburger, etc.
Best burgers I've ever put in my mouth.
The steaks are to die for.
