(28,394 posts)I was hoping to read about its effect on health and recovery. It seemed more school-oriented, though. I only found one statement about health, and it wasn't what I was hoping to see:
"An increasing number of health practitioners believe that physical ailments can be better addressed through positive thinking techniques rather than conventional medicine. " (Pretty vague.)
I hope others found some inspiration in it.
Thanks, Clarice.

(28,394 posts)I guess the old saying, "Laughter is the best medicine" has some truth to it.
It was so kind of you to find it!

(5,504 posts)I was in a bar one time, and the 2 guys and one girl next to me started having a conversation about the
whole Mary Joe/ Ted Kennedy thing. Well, the woman was a bit naive/uninformed and the two guys were
having fun telling her these outrageous lies like "It was really Bobby driving the car" blah blah on and on
So I turned to the woman and said, " Honey, those guys are just teasing you, tell those chaps to quit it"

Peace

(38,311 posts)My favorite annoyance is when optimists tell me that pessimists don't live as long.
The way I see it is the optimists get eaten by the bears, fly into the rocks, or sign up for military service not expecting they'll be used as cannon fodder.
I think people who have learned to live with a pessimistic nature are in some ways stonger than those who are looking for reassurances within the "echo chamber" that their optimism is justified.
I was thinking about you not long ago. For some strange reason I always think of you whenever I hear this song....
True story and I have no idea why.

(35,667 posts)The article quotes my all-time favorite human being, Martin E.P. Seligman. This is what I believe life is all about:
The meaningful life - achieving authentic happiness by pursuing a cause that contributes to the greater good and by committing ones strengths to it.

I found my own "happy place" in paleotology and evolutionary biology.
In a million years none of this shit will matter. Hell, most things don't last a century.
From my darkest visions everything else looks a lot brighter.
Look! I'm not a homeless off-my-meds feral person today... life is good!

coincidences that we all have. The book is called "Flow"
