i went to the grocery store & it was a madhouse!
everyone else was there too. they had people showing you how to dip strawberries in chocolate. they had bacon dipped in chocolate! (no, i didn't try it)
several employees were chasing around the floral section like it was on fire
there were lots of pink & red iced cupcakes & such in the bakery
i bought bacon, milk, avocado, soup
came home, played with pooch, watched a movie, did laundry, dusted a couple things. came here to live vicariously through everyone else's plans.
so whatcha up to today?

(2,302 posts)I just won a Facebook contest and got a 60ml bottle of a brand-new flavor, Oasis, from Ahlusion. Supposed to be a blend of citrus flavors and cactus juice. While it's steeping I'm enjoying their Melonade and Crisp Melon. Yums all around! Hubby keeps me company with some zero nic Blue Fairy (absinthe!).

(11,769 posts)so he had one of each in his lunch box all week.
I ordered Shari's Berries (as I always do), but I made a typo in the address, so UPS let me know the berries wouldn't be here until Monday. While on the phone with UPS, I let the gal know the package was Shari's Berries and part of my husband's VD pressie, she was sorry, but they still couldn't be here before Monday. I thanked her for trying, so I then dashed down stairs to whip up some Valentine traditional sweet. I ended up making chocolate cupcakes w/ peanut butter frosting... not more than 10 minutes into my mixing, the doorbell rang... it was my UPS guy with the Shari's Berries! lol Anyway, I thanked him and waved, then finished the cupcakes.
He also received the book, "The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones", music cd Lone Bellow, "Then Came The Morning", and a new slot car.

(20,043 posts)My husband wanted to take me to dinner but I'm not feeling well. It's bitter cold so we spent the day watching movies (Lucy & Into the Storm) and some stuff on the dvr. He made me grilled cheese and soup--that's what I wanted.
My son was here (his sweetie is working tonight) so I spent a relaxing day with my two favorite men. My daughter will be over tomorrow and we'll spend the morning with tea while the boys do their weights. Nice weekend for me.

(11,833 posts)It was a madhouse too. We talked & laughed about how glad neither of us is now in a relationship or marriage or whatever. A lot of people assume that single people must want to be in a long-term relationship. I've been in them. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with being single or whatever either, especially when you have good friends.
We tried to keep it sotto voce so as not to offend any lovebirds. I can get a little carried away on the subject.

(11,833 posts)Have you ever read Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby? It's a great book about how rooting for his favorite soccer team broke his heart many times over. Reading that got me to care a little less about one particular team and more about enjoying the actual sports. Though I gotta say I was way more heavily emotionally invested in the Seahawks this year than I should have been. Thank goodness I didn't bet on them in the Super Bowl. Then I would have lost money and been furious. Instead I just kind of floated around in shock & denial for a long time, lol.

(4,412 posts)it was 75 degrees and I swear damn near the whole state of California was there enjoying this amazing weather. Lines and traffic everywhere. We did finally make it to a deli in Monterey picked up some sammies and inched along until we got to Pacific Grove and found a decent spot to park by the bay. We also found a bench not in use. Ate our sammies and hung about for a bit before returning home.

(7,608 posts)No hurry- she's in Cancun and won't get back for a couple more days. Anyway, the "for wife" displays were all empty and the "for husband" displays were almost all full. Pointed that out to the guy next to me and he said the women probably bought early and the store restocked. Then there are a whole lot of last-minute guys like us...
So Valentine's Day I'm home almost alone- just me, the cat, a bottle of rum, and the internet. Did constructive stuff during daylight hours and I'm feeling ok.

Got this from my Husband.
But I didn't get much of his time. He has been working all day and evening. I did get to spend about 30 minutes with him while we ate takeout from a restaurant.
Now he's fast asleep on the couch. Burned out I'm sure. My kids are all off doing there own thing.
There's no way I can eat all that chocolate, so if anyone is nearby, please feel free to stop by. I'll gladly share some.

(30,736 posts)They were manning the floral and bakery sections pretty heavily. They were also having a prime rib dinner. I don't know how well attended it was. I am not sure many people would think dinner out at the grocery store is romantic. But it was busy, for such a cold day.

(34,051 posts)their website is showing the closest store to me is in indiana--which isn't close at all.
stupid question:
do they have a dining room or do you sit down at a table to eat and people are pushing their shopping carts around your chair?
murielm99
(30,736 posts)It has about eight tables. They have always served lunches and coffee there. They just made it nicer for Valentine's day. It is well out of the path of shopping carts. It has always been a nice little eating area.
I like the store and its deli. There would be one big problem for me that would make me hesitate to eat over there. The town, about ten miles from me, is the hometown of Ronald Reagan. There are two big pictures of him on the wall of the luncheon area. I am not going to look at that evil man and eat dinner.
My community no longer has a grocery store. We had a thriving store. The nice people who ran it retired while they could still enjoy themselves. The guy who took over ran it into the ground. We now have to drive out of town to shop. There is a Dollar General in my small town. They do have food items. I don't go there unless it is an emergency. The store is dirty. The workers are indifferent. The parking lot was one giant pothole until they had to settle a lawsuit with a handicapped man who hurt himself there. I don't think the corporation who owns the store cares about anything but collecting our money.
There is supposed to be an economic development committee in my town. They are more of a "let's suit ourselves and our friends and shun everyone else" committee. They don't break the law, but they close ranks against others. I am sorry to go off topic, but I despise this town.
orleans
(34,051 posts)that's really too bad when businesses close or change like that.
and i don't blame you for not wanting to look at pictures of reagan when you're trying to eat. maybe you could talk to the manager & tell him that a couple nice pictures to help enhance the "atmosphere" of the eating area would probably attract more customers.

(12,153 posts)mr. froggy started building a RC heli. We've been happily married for almost 50 years and are still each other's valentines. One reason why is that we don't think we have to do everything together or enjoy the same things.
The painting I computer-printed and used is Arnold Bocklin's "Battle of the Centaurs." mr. froggy said he thought frolicking horses would have been neater...so there you have it, just like I said.
