Fasten your seatbelts, Lounge: Cocker spaniels; neighbor (loud) parties, calling cops?!1

This pic was in the local paper's Sunday available-for-adoption a few years ago. He was taken by the time I called. He is thoroughly pissed, not, I hope, the reason he ended up in the shelter, but rather for being subjected to the indignity of doggie jail.

2nd topic. So I'm in the accustomed role of training new neighbors. The loud parties need to go to a public venue, NOT a residential neighborhood. Yes, I have called cops over the years (THESE are NEW neighbors, needing to be trained). So, what are the Lounge guidelines for loud parties -- 3 strikes?!1

No, the other time was bad, we're talking DJ loudness and vehicles parked up my yazoo property line. I think that if you don't have enough parking space in your property you need to go to a public park or event center. My MawMaw said: "Respect your house."

Tonight it's not a tons-of-vehicles thing and the outside music is relatively moderate, not LOUD-loud. However, we need to establish guidelines/parameters. So it's curfew time (10 P.M.) although there is no time limit for being offended (some people work nights and sleep days). Anyway, I'm letting it ride tonight to see how far they push the limits. YOU tell me, Lounge, you wild and crazy Loungeteers, how loud and how late ( and vehicles parking) is enough for YOU?!1

Some other factors to consider, Lounge: 1) RESPECT your house/neighborhood. That's what BARS are for to be loud/yelling/whatever, NOT at your house. 2) If tons of vehicles DON'T FIT in your driveway/property and you INVADE all of your neighbors, this means you need to HIRE an events-center or go to a PUBLIC PARK or just GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!1 3) Why oh why does YOUR preferred expression get to override everybody elses, as in, "I'm just having a good time so why don't you LET me and/or JOIN IN?!1"

especially if there are noise ordinances and trespassing is taking place.

I've never had to do that, though there's an asshole in the apartments next to our little complex that seems to think he's Jeremy Clarkson, as the loudness of his vehicle isn't enough unless he's both gunning it and racing down our (normally/relatively) quiet neighborhood street.

My question on calling the police is do I use 911, or one of the regular phone numbers for the police? It's not like it's an emergency, which is why I question whether to use 911 or not.

I hope you get things sorted out for yourself and your likely equally annoyed neighbors around this untrained neighbor

If music is very loud and after 12, I would not let it ride, but mention it politely.

i say cut them some slack tonight

maybe they're having a moving in, or new house party

if their company is parking on the street that is perfectly legal (unless otherwise noted by street signs)

if they are blocking your driveway then it's a different story

if this loud party business becomes routine then i would ask the cops to go over & talk to them

have fun. my friend actually kept a notebook full of notes as to what was happening with his next door neighbors -- they were renting and there were loud fights, loud music, car bass blasting at night, gunshots, drug deals, lots of crap.

* “noise ordinances” – Years of headbanging research: None needed. DISTURBING THE PEACE = any ONE person complaining (me).

* “trespassing” – A public street is fair game for all. Yes, they’re parked in front of MY property, but not “trespassing.”

* 911 – No, it’s a non-emergency.

* “equally annoyed neighbors” – nope. Nobody (else) wants to get involved, even though the ENTIRE rest of the street is quiet.

* 10 P.M./midnight – Nope, there is no set time for being upset: Some people work nights and sleep days. Anytime can be the wrong time.

* “cutting slack” – Yep, did that tonight. As I said, the decibels were moderate tonight and the parking was one-vehicle overflow past the property line. And they cut out early.

* Keeping a log – In past years with previous tenants, I did that, multiple pages/single-spaced, and the cops were duly impressed (without taking action). This is a new set of tenants. They’re testing limits. Big (ONE) party last week, I called cops and the party was over. Tonight small party, testing testing, for them to establish how BIG and how LATE to go. Next time, the ante's up.

THAT was one cute cocker. I'll bet the shelter will have more. Good luck with that.
