So I was at my per diem at the urgent care center on Wednesday and the lab director, who I haven't seen for ages, was working in the office there that day.
First I got a call from the tech that is scheduling. Confirmed I'd gotten December schedule and it was fine. Talked about the urgent care center -- found out that the new night tech will be picking up 1 day/week there, starts her training there next month, so for me its strictly occasional fill-in from here on out.
I was reeling from the kick in the gut -- I'd forgotten about that, but already had known it and also didn't realize it was starting so soon.
And then at the end of her day, the lab director came over to say hello/goodbye. Short chat -- filled her in on the hospital to my north that I'd applied to for per diem, and how I'd never heard back although my application status still showed "in review." I told her my one sticking point when I spoke with that lab manager was that I don't have recent micro background other than plating and gram stains because we send out the cultures.
Turns out the lab director didn't sabotage me there! (paranoid me can crawl back under her rock now!)
Turns out they didn't close the full-time reqs, they filled them. Several new techs are in training right now, which is probably why anything else is on hold. And then she said after they're through their training period, she'll tell the manager that she needs another per diem and to hire MT!
WOOT! Once that happens, my current hell of not enough lab work to quit the p/t call center, but too much to be anything other than wiped out every day all day will be over!!!!
