(115,683 posts)We gave most of it to Goodwill. It was good-quality stuff, we figured someone could use it.

I recently signed up for 7 local pages like that.
Most of the items are clothing.

The proceeds would be better than what a charity thrift store could get for them, so you could give some $ to a charity, too, if you feel like it.

(20,176 posts)All of that is really hot and trendy now. Don't ask...the hipsters love it. Hell, I love it. A nice wool tweed jacket worn ironically will get you laid.
That's who is going to buy it from Goodwill, you might as well get real value for it...the majority of donations to Goodwill get shredded for rags or fibers, another large chunk gets sold on secondary markets in the poorer parts of the globe...only a small portion, what is considered most-salable makes it to your local store.
Alternately, if you have a cool college-aged or post-collegiate nephew, they'll probably love them. If they don't love the duds, you can tell them that the hippest person you know (me) thinks they're being a square. No shit, pick up any decent men's fashion magazine...your father's clothes are in-fashion. People are paying a lot of money to dress like your dad.
