Anyone else sick of jury "decisions"?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by bluesbassman (a host of the The DU Lounge forum).

I've seen so many posts deleted lately, including my own, for no reason other than stereotypical "knee jerk liberal" reasons. This crap is getting out of hand! Every time it happens to me, I get a reply from someone on the jury apologizing for others who voted to remove my post.

Are we tolerant or are we interested in a forum full of blind affirmation? Do we want mealy mouthed water carrying or genuine discussion? I've not posted anything right wing in my TEN YEARS of membership, but this jury stuff if over the top and makes me feel that this community is full of hypersensitive dingbats... /rant

I am sure THIS will get reported as well... sigh.

(And if anyone replies "IBTL", you're part of the "problem.&quot

Our social forum. Relax with your friends and talk about off-topic stuff. The Lounge is supposed to be a friendly, welcoming place for everyone. No cliquish behavior. No drama. No political arguments. No whining about DU.

Emphasis mine.

I've been drawn and usually I leave things alone, hardly thinking a ban is needed. I notice as time moves on… the strategy is to "get em" sometimes and I've been hidden a few times when I had no idea I was being insensitive.

Do yours follow a pattern that's relevant to a subject matter?

unless the post is really nasty. I won't hide something simply because I don't agree with it.

Most juries I've been on went pretty much the same way, but not all. And I've seen some hides that completely baffle me.

There's a lot of muffled talk about being afraid to say some things for fear of being hidden. In one way, that's a good thing for civilizing speech, but then there is that history of governments, industries, communities... managing speech through fear.

If the post is on topic, unless it is deliberately abusive I leave it. That's how it should be, IMO.

is when it's clearly a troll and has only 1 or 2 posts to their name and are suddenly instigating an arguments. That isn't too often though.

and it is far from perfect. But it is better than having a moderator with no brains or an axe to grind about having no brains, which is what other boards use.
