1. The one thing I used to hate...

are fake laugh tracks. Back in the old days they must have used it to cover bad jokes, or bad comedy. Like people needed to know when to laugh at stuff.

I think of it as rather being insulting..to our intelligence that we have to be "told" when to laugh as if we don't know funny when we hear it. Maybe people in Hollywood were just arrogant enough to add them, so as to tell the stupid audience, what was supposed to be funny, and what wasn't.

edit to say thanks for posting.. it was kind of cute.

2. It seemed like maybe it was a clip from America's funniest videos

rather than a fake laugh track but I have no idea, just thought it was so silly.

3. America's funniest videos

always employed fake laugh tracks. Well, they thought it had to be funny, and if a live audience had weak laughing sounds, the video would be a dud. So, they added an instant laugh track.. now its funny.

...not.

5. Many shows did

I am not sure when it stopped. I think many people got annoyed with it.

7. I just realized that laugh tracks when stuff isn't funny

are incredibly obnoxious. We are supposed to think it's funny just because there's laughter, but it almost never is.
