Roller Skates

John Joseph Merlin debuted his invention, the roller skate, in London. He made a rolling entrance into a party whilst playing the violin, careered across the room and crashed into an expensive mirror, dashing it to pieces along with his violin and wounding himself most severely.

He invented inline skates in 1760. He also built automata and musical instruments.
