Bill Lear, who invented the business jet and the 8-track tape cartridge, named one of his daughters Shanda.

(I don't know if this is true or not, but I read it somewhere: The prototype of his first plane had an autopilot in it. One fine day he went up in the plane with little Shanda, who was a toddler at the time, to do some testing and to let her see the world from thousands of feet up. Well...he accidentally strayed into restricted airspace and pissed off the Air Force. They sent up two planes to intercept...so he turned on the autopilot, stood Shanda in the pilot's seat and told her to wave at the nice men in the other planes when they got up to them.)

They claim he died of leukemia. I'm not so sure about that.
