The only attractive accent is British. The rest of them do nothing for me.
Some are easier on the ears than others. And some are unintelligible.
The high-educated formal British accent...not Cockney or those unintelligible folk from Manchester.

(28,394 posts)It just sounds like home to me. It has to be authentic, though. If it's exaggerated, like "Pittsburgh Dad", it sounds fake. (He's on YouTube.)

(5,364 posts)I work with lots of them and it drives me up a wall. We're always breaking their balls, but they're okay as people.
Shot = shawt
Dollar = Dawwlurr
Another thing I noticed was some pronounce words at different syllable than most commonly do. I hear this a lot:
IN-surance for in-SUR-ance
MU-seum for mu-SE-um
UM-brella for um-BRELL-a ( when they're not calling it a bumbershoot. Don't even get me going on that.

Another 'Burghism: "gum band" (rubber band).

"theatre" with accent on the second syllable instead of the first? (the-AY-ter)
I know of people born and bred in California who pronounce it like that.

(50,566 posts)I'm not a big fan of most American accents in terms of finding them "attractive" (although I do think the Maine and Minnesota accents are very entertaining), but I guess I prefer the generic TV broadcast American accent, if I had to pick one that was the least un-attractive.

(7,720 posts)of Minnesotans have the exaggerated Minnesota/Fargo accent. Most people in Minnesota have more of the neutral TV anchor accent.

(8,217 posts)The well traveled individual sounds amazing.
However, if you're talking about accents that I find amazingly attractive.
I'd say, the New Zealand/Australia regional accents are just damn sexy.

(45,442 posts)I like deep south and Minnesota as well, but can't stand the appalachian twang or NYC. Boston is cute if its not too strong

(20,453 posts)It's the only truly distinguished "accent". Why do you think all those broadcasters and on-air hosts try to achieve it?
I've been told that I have a mid-western accent, but southern (FL) comes through it. I can fake various southern accents, but I find I start craving boiled peanuts.

I voted for New York. East Coast, baby!

(24,931 posts)that the Great Lakes accent isn't necessarily attractive, but interesting. It's kind of weird how it stretches from Upstate NY all the way to Eastern Wisconsin.
