Falling cactus destroyed carport and three vehicles

Last edited Sat Mar 8, 2014, 01:30 AM - Edit history (1)

A saguaro cactus tumbled over on Sunday morning, taking down a carport and burying two vehicles and a golf cart.

Residents at the home close to Paseo de Golf in Green Valley, Arizona, said they heard a loud crash at about 5:30am and discovered the carport ripped from the house.

The cactus, which I believe is pictured here, came to a rest across the driveway with several arms broken off. One rolled into the street and another landed against a neighbouring home.

We only have trees that big in Iowa, and I hate to lose those. I presume it would be the same for cactus owners.

I spent my first Xmas here alone and decided to make the 4 hour drive to the Saguaro National Park. I was amazed at how huge and incredibly beautiful they are. I always pictured them like you see in the movies, but they really are much more majestic when they're healthy and up close. If you ever get out here, here's an addition to your tourist list:

I visited Joshua Tree National Park last fall while visiting my daughter in California. Those trees look like they inspired Dr. Seuss's trees in "The Lorax". You might want to check that out if you haven't seen it.

and spots in the broken pieces that don't look healthy, I'm surprised it hadn't fallen before now.
