(20,176 posts)It looks like a computer of some sort and oddly-shaped kettlebell. And man, those clothes are awful, his hair is awful, she's kinda cute but the waist on that skirt is like old-man-jacked-up to her sternum, his shirt seems to have a random pen-pocket on the side of his gut.
It must be the 1970s. I thankfully just-about missed them, I was born mid Dec. 79.

Did they used to come with lead-plate shielding or something?

(20,176 posts)Grandma pulled a .45 on the phone company guy when he came to "steal" her phone after she had informed them that they could make it work however they'd like, she wasn't switching to one of those 'calculator-button-phones". Her rotary phone served her well for 40 years (same phone) and she wasn't changing, she'd already given-up enough when they made her give-up the party-line and have her own extension.

(47,675 posts)It was hardwired (into the wall, not even the old 4-screw junction box). They both smoked and the thing suffered some pretty serious damage from it - pitted housing, yellowed dial and center cap. The cord was long enough to run through most of their house. Phone numbers used to have two letter prefixes (their exchange was "White Hall 6", 946). The number is still on the phone in that format, type-written even.

(21,020 posts)I left my last job in 1995.
For most of the 7 years I worked there, I had to use one of these...
10 Mb hard drive...dark grey background, and fluorescent green letters/numbers.
Yeah. It's a Kaypro 10.

(719 posts)Years ago, I was a personal assistant to a CPA...typed a lot of memos, letters, etc. on a big ol' Wang word processor which was nicknamed "The Beast."
The Kaypro pictured resembles it too closely for comfort. That machine was the recipient of more disgusted profanity than George W. Bush.

(20,176 posts)Check the discount rack, I'm not being snide. It's their policy that anything returned has to go on discount and that's about the only truly discounted shoes they sell. (Discount Shoe Warehouse, my fanny.) So I go and I browse and then when I find what I want, I go look for a pair on the discount-rack for 30%-70% off.
