(38,485 posts)Call came from India. They had me hitting the windows key to call up errors. The operator exclaimed 'Oh my God!' when I read the number of 'errors' at the top of this chart that came up.

If you had a problem, why would they call you?
I'm amazed at the numbers of people who fall for scams.

he kept telling me to look at my Windows and I kept laying the phone down, then telling him I had looked out my window and what was I supposed to see?
and other goofy stuff.
Finally, at the end, I asked him if I needed to be using a Microsoft computer, cause I did not have one.

(34,137 posts)Do it the next dozen times they call. Actually since I started laughing at them, they've only called back a few times. They get very offended by being laughed at and seem to have no sense of humor. It can be really funny to laugh at them and listen to their reactions. They make laugh even more.
Truly, this has worked better than hanging up on them. And the laughing makes me feel better.

(6,154 posts)It's a common scam. Don't give them any information!
I dicked around with them last time they called me. Eventually they hung up in me lol.

(8,646 posts)First time they called me, they had a pretty convincing guy at the other end, and I was like, um, I don't think I have any issues, I just updated everything this morning. Then I was like, wait a minute, this seems fishy so I asked him, how the heck can you tell what's going on on my computer, isn't that an invasion of privacy? Then he got abusive and started screaming and threatening me, so I called the Canadian anti-fraud center and reported the number that had showed up on my call display.
They called again a month later, and I asked them a bunch of questions and again, they got mad and rude, so I hung up.
The next time they called, I basically said, "don't you try to fool me with your scam shit, I've got your number on my call display and I'm calling the cops right now"
I haven't had a call since.
What they want to do is send you something to 'download' to 'fix' your computer. What it REALLY does is spy on you and gives them all your info that you enter in your computer.

(225 posts)Scammers usually hack the phone system so the callerid displayed numbers are fake.
Does anyone here seriously think Microsoft cares if there is anything wrong with their pc?
