The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI was just interviewed by a sheriff's deputy.
I live in a mobile home park in Woodstock, Cherokee County, GA just northwest of Atlanta. This morning about 7 a.m., I heard a horn blowing off and on at the end of my street. I didn't think anything about it because I thought someone's horn had stuck or a car burglar alarm had gone off.
Around 15 minutes ago, a Cherokee County sheriff was knocking at my door. He wanted to know if I had seen or heard anything, but all I could tell him was about the horn. I asked him if there had been some criminal activity and he nodded yes.
I am curious and hope whatever occurred will be on the local TV news. There is very little crime here, at least not like there is in other parts of the Atlanta area.

(30,947 posts)A white male of 25 years old was found by some children in the woods at the end of my road. His face was burned off. His last name was Diablo. That is ironic.
My neighbor and I walked down to where all the police were and that is the information we got. I will probably know more when it hits the local news which it hasn't yet. I didn't see any news trucks at the scene tonight.

(30,947 posts)I spoke to a couple of ladies who knew him and they were crying. So I think the killer or killers live somewhere around here.

(30,947 posts)I called the local news station, as they are usually the ones to get info first. I called Fox News and they had no knowledge of it, but said they would get on right away. Then I called WSBTV news. The woman at the news center told me the police were investigating it, and they were not sure if it was murder. She didn't say suicide, but what else could it have been? If he committed suicide, I wondered how his face could have been burnt. But the kids who found him said his face was burned off. Then I started thinking that instead it could have been blood on his face if he shot himself in the head.
There is still no mention of it on the news. But I am sure I will find out more from the people in the neighborhood who knew him.

(30,947 posts)I checked the news stations in Atlanta but forgot about 11Alive since I don't watch it because their news casts are too brief.
I live a few hundred yards from where he was found. I did not know him, but there were others I spoke to who did. There was one girl who was crying and that could have been the girlfriend. I didn't ask her name, but she lives right at the edge of the field where he was found.

(31,404 posts)(I was out of town at the time) to see whether he'd heard anything
around 5:30 am when the woman was murdered. She was the student
body president at UNC-Chapel Hill, was kidnapped by two guys, driven
around to get money out of ATM's, then taken and shot five times
and dumped in our neighborhood near campus. One of hubby's co-workers
who lives nearby heard the shots and reported it. Police found
her body--with no id--and it took them almost a day to identify her.
So, so sad. They found the guys who did it. Both convicted and serving
life sentences. Turned out they were both on probation when they killed
her, and one should have had his probation revoked when caught carrying
a gun. Slipped through the cracks.
The co-worker who heard the gunshots told hubby a couple years ago that she
was still having nightmares about it after several years.

(30,947 posts)in Buckhead. There are dead bodies found all the time in and around Atlanta, but this was the first time one had been found in my neighborhood in Woodstock. There is no way I would live in Atlanta. The crime there is almost as bad as in Miami where I lived until 1989.

(30,947 posts)that the death was determined to be a suicide. That puzzles me. How could no one have heard any screams if he was burning to death. I am not far from where it happened and did not hear anything nor did anyone else who lived close to the woods where he did this.

(30,947 posts)questions about the death of that man who allegedly burned himself to death. I told them that it was very disturbing to me because no matter what the medical examiner stated that I did not believe he committed suicide. They are interviewing everyone here on my road, which is just not too far from where it happened. I am thinking that they have doubts also.
I found out from my next door neighbor who is Mexican-American and knew of him that he was an illegal. My son said that they do not really pursue cases of illegals unless they are involved in drugs or if they committed a crime.
