I found DU via another website hosted by DU'er Stewert...Oreillysucks.com. don't know if Stewert's still around or his website, but I was lost in a sea of RAH RAH LETS ROLL BURN THEM TOWELHEADED CAMEL FUCKERS WOOOHOO NUKE THE MIDDLEEASTMOTHERFUCKERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS and felt very lost and alone because, well, I wasn't all rah rah. I wasn't for war. I'm not necessarily LIHOP or MIHOP but 9/11 seemed strangely convenient and that night or the next day OH WOW LOOK WE FOUND A KORAN AND A FLIGHT MANUAL IN THE CAR OF THE HIJACKER LETS START MAKING SOME FUCKING LAWS RIGHT NOW IN THE NAME OF FREEEEEEEEEEDOM

anyways. Found DU. read for a few days and signed up. Think my first post was something about abortion. Got a hearty welcome and been here ever since. Back then there were just a few hundred posters. Most of them gone now...dead or moved on, or changed their user name, or were banned for being whatever it was that got them banned.

8. Well, that was 2 lost usernames and passwords ago...

but I've been here in some form since there weren't enough people here to fill Fenway Park.

Don't even remember what the usernames were...I've tried looking them up but they're not anything I've used elsewhere.

11. I found DU a day or two after it first went online

after reading about it on Buzzflash or GWBush.com, I think. I spent the first few months mainly reading the home page articles, and finally joined the discussion forum in maybe April 2001. Probably my first set of posts was discussing the Japanese educational system with Lydia Leftcoast.

12. Found DU in late 2001 through a link on Mydd.....Lurked until July or August of 2002....

I can remember when I could read the headline of every thread posted on DU every day. I remember when the first "Rooms" were formed, especially the GLBT room. It was my first real exposure to the larger gay community as an adult. It changed my opinion, my attitude and in some ways my life.

14. I joined in 2001 and rarely posted because I was at work a lot. I lurked enthusiastically, though.

Then I changed email providers, my computer crashed, I forgot my password, and I drifted away for a bit. When I came back I couldn't even remember my old user name. I keep meaning to go through the entire list of DUers and see if I can find it, but I never get around to doing it (there are so many members!!!).
