oh boy a whole new way to get diarrhea in the morning....move over bud light.

Instead of Taco Hell's breakfast, pick up something healthier...like a carton of cigarettes or a pile of crack!

I'll keep that burrito in mind when I'm shopping for ways to kill myself...

And what is with the reviewers thing? Fast-food expert, health-nut and on-the-go person? Who do they think they are kidding?

3. The gullible, I presume.

The only fast food breakfast I like is WhataBurger. Taco Bell, McD's, BK....they'll never get me in the door.

Even WB is a last resort...when I'm too tired or disinclined to cook my own breakfast, or can't con the wife into doing it.

I'm old-school...I like those big heart-attack-on-a-plate breakfasts, and keep the coffee coming. Eggs, bacon or sausage (links or patties, I don't care), biscuits and gravy...maybe even a short stack of pancakes if i really wanna get jiggy-wid-it.

Those who feel compelled to comment on my breakfast choices say stuff like, "Wow, I can hear your arteries clogging as we speak!" or similar half-witticisms as they nibble on their fruit, eat their oatmeal and sip their juice. I-- 58 years of age, 6'3" tall and weighing in at 205 well-toned pounds-- just smile and say, "Yeah, and I heard that joke coming a mile away. Pass the butter, please."

I was born with a certain kind of metabolism...and I wouldn't trade it for anything. So many of my peers, especially those in sedentary professions, have to invest a lot of costly and sweaty time and effort to keep those extra pounds off.

4. Gullible is too broad, though there must be some of that

It is something more. Maybe whoever does the advertising/merchandising for PepsiCo is looking at sites like Amazon which allow consumers to review their buys and using the everyman approach to present the new product. But these reviewers are being paid and want to keep on being paid, maybe on-the-go, health nut and the other guy are actually just one guy. Not one of the "three" reviewers mentioned diarrhea, THAT is what tipped me off.

Congrats on your metabolism, but I disagree with you about Hooters, just on principle though, I have never eaten there.

Health Nut had nothing good to say about any of the products. If that's the work of a PR firm and I were Yum! I'd refuse to pay for that marketing.

Really reviews from Health Nut are pointless...it's Taco Bell, did they actually expect any of these options to be healthy. One does not eat at Taco Bell because they want a healthy meal...one eats at Taco Bell because they are self-loathing. That's always been my theory.

14. He liked the Grande Skillet Burrito.

Health Nut: "The tomatoes and onions are a great surprise. It seems healthier than the Carl's Jr. breakfast burrito. I wish they could turn it into a bowl."

He also said that his kids would like the Cinnabon Delights:
Health Nut: "My kids would go crazy over the Cinnabon Delights, but I'm not sure how thrilled I'd be for them to have this for breakfast."

The PR people know they can't make most of us believe that the food is gourmet, but they can make some of us believe that it will taste pretty good, be relatively cheap and satisfy our hunger. Again Chan, not one reviewer mentioned diarrhea, a given from what I gather, after eating at Taco Bell.

Your self-loathing theory has merit, advertising depends on it to get us to buy crap to make us feel better. Inducing, then offering relief for self-loathing is a sound marketing stategy, if all you care about is money.

8. I have never been able to figure out how so MANY thriving(!!!) Taco Bells exist in Tucson...

... just as I could never figure out the success of Pizza Huts and Subways, et.al. could thrive
in the heartland of pizzas and hoagies (Philadelphia).

Snowbirds/American "immigrants" who are used to them just doesn't cut it for me.

Though, in a pinch for time and money, I will hit the bean-and-cheese burritos from their value
menu.

15. We went to a TGIFs in Paris

OMG, major confession to post this on DU. But we had spent all week immersed in a foreign culture, including walk/running past a Palestinian demonstration in the streets during the W administration. We just hurried to the Metro, and tried to look like Canadians . At any rate, we were tired and wanted the familiar.

When I was in China, I tried all the regional foods, but also went to a Starbucks while at the World Expo. I needed to ground myself and food does that for people. So, as stupid as it is, sometimes you just want to know what to expect.

16. The some of the worst pizzas I ever had were in Philly.
Sun Jan 29, 2012, 01:01 PM

Philly: Subs yes. Pizza no. I grew up in a pizzeria, my youngest brother is still a pizza-oven baker...I knew I was in deep shit when I watched the guy in some pizzeria in Roxborough making my pie and he used...oh, it's terrible...I'm embarrassed for him...he used <whisper>spaghetti sauce</whisper>. He used straight-out mozzarella instead of a proper pizza-cheese blend. About the only thing he did right was toss the dough...though he oiled (I think it was garlic-OO blend) it before saucing it and I don't know what that was about.

OTOH, there are dramatically-few chain pizza-shops in NJ, CT and NYC compared to the number of pizzerias. Of course, since the debate over who came up with the pizza first between Frank Pepe in New Haven and Giuseppe Lombardi in NYC still rages, that's not really a surprise. The best pizza comes from the heartland of pizza: an arc of eastern seaboard stretching from New Haven into North NJ via New York City. Don't even bring up that Chicago crap...the philistines think there's butter in pizza dough.

10. The best review...

was the asshole who said he'd never order the Bacon & Egg Burrito because it has 290 calories, but was okay with the 680 milligrams of sodium. Of course, when you walk into a Taco Bell you basically know you're going to be chewing on a salt shaker, but still...

17. I had a great Mexican breakfast from one of my clients' restaurants this morning
Sun Jan 29, 2012, 05:00 PM
Jan 2012

$6.50 for a HUGE "Huevos con Papas Breakfast Burrito."

Eggs, beans, potatoes, salsa. This is a real-deal Mexican restaurant, no Taco Bell. The place is SPOTLESS, the food never leaves you with a "heavy" feeling (as in too greasy), the portions are BIG, and the price is right.

They also have Huevos Rancheros.

18. I don't like breakfast, especially junk food versions

although I like some junk food regular menu items FOR breakfast

I don't get the hate on for Taco Bell, it's not Mexican food by a long shot but I like their crunchy tacos (add onions!) a lot and they aren't as unhealthy as a burger if that matters when you are eating junk.

cheap, fast, tastes pretty good to me + drive through = WIN
