(10,237 posts)certainly my hair gets a bit out of sorts when it gets this hot .

(34,311 posts)for sure.
Wet rag on your neck. That helps me working outside in the big heat. We have been cool this summer, upper 90's only a few times and no 100's yet. Last 2 years were brutal but my wet rag kept me from passing out, that and lots of water.

(72,300 posts)That temp is inside my house.
MuseRider
(34,311 posts)It is 94 here right now. I just turned on my air as I just got inside and can stay in for several hours. Sweaty from getting all the chores done, now to relax a bit. Ahhhhhh.
I am sorry you are so hot. It is not comfortable at all.

(72,300 posts)If cools down tonight, I'll be in a better mood to face the heat tomorrow.

Enjoy the cool air while you can.
MuseRider
(34,311 posts)but I am the one that chose to have a farm and all these critters. There is no avoiding the weather. Knee deep snow that you have to walk 1/2 mile through or dealing with 110's for a month last year. I find the more I just accept it and do what I have to do I may get really sweaty and out of sorts but I do get so I can tolerate it better. If you are not used to it it can be horribly miserable.
Hope you can get your air fixed. It is getting so expensive that I fear as we get hotter we won't be able to afford to use anything like that for comfort.

(72,300 posts)Now it's up to 98°!
How may animals do you have?
MuseRider
(34,311 posts)and 2 goats now and 4 dogs and 3 cats and feed a bunch of other things that really don't take much time. The barn upkeep takes a bit of work. The crop is brome hay and is only labor intensive for others since I do not harvest it myself. No desire to buy those big, expensive haying machines or worry about fixing them. Made a good deal with a guy who does it for me.

(72,300 posts)I was so flattened (and I'm no spring chicken) when my AC went out last year that I sought out ACed places. I even hung out in the reception room at our nice friendly police station until it got dark and the temperature dropped a little. I was seriously worried about survival.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)I spent the month of June , 2006 in the Florida Keys with a DUer. In 2010 I was living in Muscle Shoals Alabama with very little AC. I guess this is part of getting older that I didn't know about.

(16,993 posts)Use fans to circulate air in the room you're in. Fill a large bowl with ice and let a fan blow across it, drape a wet towel around your neck as Muse suggested--it really does help. Close blinds and draperies to keep the sun out of your house, and drink lots of cool water.
If you get really hot, take a cold shower to cool off, you'll feel better for a little while after.

(72,300 posts)It malfunctioned last week. I paid over $900 for a partial repair just to get back home. Since I drive for a living, I'll be completing the repair sometime this month.
I do have one fan in my bedroom, one in Mr In The Wind's bedroom and a ceiling fan in the living room.
All of the birds are overheating.
AndyA
(16,993 posts)buy an inexpensive table top fan and direct it toward you (with the bowl of ice in between)--it will make you more comfortable.
I hope your birds will be OK. Haven't had birds since I was a kid--how do they handle the heat? I know they get by OK outside, but birds that are pets likely aren't used to the heat.

(72,300 posts)We found a dead sparrow on top of my car earlier today.
I have two birdbaths outside. The water is clean. It's supposed to cool down to 69° tonight.

I hope the parrots do OK, panting doesn't sound good. Sending good thoughts your way for cool air soon.

(72,300 posts)I studied birds one semester at a local college. Thanks to my professor, my study of the North American Goldfinch is part of the Department of Ornithology at the American Museum of Natural History. Love the featherheads.

(72,300 posts)All of my Golden Retrievers crossed the rainbow bridge in the hot summer months.
We usually get one week between 95° and 105°. The Chocolate Lab I have now was on the road with me. She seemed to tolerate it except one time in Memphis. Poor pup got sick cause we were so hot.

(1,437 posts)but we have long, cold winters here, so when we get a little heat-wave everyone enjoys it.. I prefer 80-90s in the summer..

(5,062 posts)My heart goes out to you. I had to spend three summers with no AC and it was miserable. I have to buy an entire new AC, which will cost about $5,000 (or close to it) So, I bought a portable AC. Usually works okay but in this heat you can't go far from it. I have two of them and then fans in the garage and basement.
I hate this heat and humidity so much I wanted to know where on the planet I can go this time of year to cool off. Even in the Swiss Alps and Vienna it's around 80 something.
