My kid brother was killed in an auto accident.

(72,300 posts)I'm so very sorry for your pain.
It must have been very difficult for you to accept a loss of that magnitude.
Please tell me as much as you care to share about your job.
We've only just met, ohio. I'd like to know more.

(24,262 posts)took place on Sunday. I flew back to Van the next day Monday. At that time I managed a shoe store. When I arrived at work Tuesday morn there was a message to call my supervisor. Upon speaking he informed me that although he was aware of the reason for my absence all Managers were required to work Saturday and Monday. Since I did not I would be docked two days pay. I told him to get fucked and walked out.
I learned that a neighboring shopping center had a need for an Assistant General Manager. I interviewed for the position and although I had no experience in commercial real estate management I was hired. I went from making $10.00 an hour to $24,000.00 annually with full benefits. Within three years that grew to $40K. I worked for that firm for nearly twenty years. During my tenure I managed their flagship properties in British Columbia and southern California.
Knowing that I had left school in grade ten they paid for me to attend classes at Cal State and UCLA to earn professional designations that were required for promotion within the organization. When I left I was receiving a six figure salary, had stock options, and had been recognized with more management and achievement awards than anyone in the company.

(12,132 posts)It barely affected me at all. I had graduated high school and left home the year before - at the age of 17. I was already well into my love for Led Zeppelin and heavier metal so pop songs didn't enter into my sphere of awareness because I was too caught up into maintaining my image and living on my own, having escaped religious fundamentalism and emotional and physical abuse. I had to "seem" tough so we didn't listen to stuff like that.
I still love and prefer metal but I'm glad I got over the needing to seem tough. Stevie has an incredible voice and I like hearing her sing. I especially like hearing her sing with Lindsay Buckingham playing guitar. They are coming to my town in a few months and I don't know yet if I can get tickets but I really want to.

(72,300 posts)Led Zeppelin also had a huge effect on my life. But I'm more of a romantic type of person.
So, Stairway To Heaven became another one of my play it all night songs.
The emotional and physical abuse that I experienced from
the time I was 9 until I reached the age of 17 led me to job as an investigator for CPS.
By the time I reached that job I had become as tough as I appeared to be.
Good luck on getting those tickets to see Stevie.

(12,132 posts)I picked it because that's what I want to be but it's not necessarily what I am yet.
Them Fleetwood Macs is proud of their tickets so it's still up in the air if we get to go but I think there's enough time between then and now to get it together.
The main problem is there aer several other shows I want to see in the next couple months too. Rush, Anthrax, Dropkick Murphys, Muse, Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death, and a few others all coming soon! I need to make friends in the music bidness!

(5,364 posts)Though as more of a hard rocker I'm not a fan of her ( or Fleetwood Mac ) it is surely a jogger of pleasant memories and was often playing in the background at bars/clubs or parties during my young adult years.
It is to that end I like the song.
