Mine: If I add the numbers of the date of my birth, will that predict the year of my demise?

(27,985 posts)You know that adage about 100 monkeys and 100 years and Shakespeare? Yeah, well, what I'm about to write, they never would have come up with unless they lived in Alice's wonderland. It is equal parts absurd and true:
Tonight, my Standard Poodle had a stare down with the dock beaver and the beaver won.
Thanks, monkeys, you can go home now. Have a banana on your way out........
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)A Standard Poodle is no small pup. How bad is it?
tavalon
(27,985 posts)Ollie dropped his eyes and his tail and we left for our walk. When we came back, the beaver was standing in exactly the same spot, more than willing to do round two of stare down and Ollie refused to acknowledge him. I waited until I got him into the barge to keel over laughing. Then I went back out to get pictures, but the beaver was in no mood to pose, he jumped back into the water and slapped it with his tail for good measure. He's a huge beaver, BTW, about 2/3rds the size of my dog. But twice the moxy, clearly.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)After yesterday, I was afraid to ask.
Thanks for the complete story. Obviously, Ollie is smarter than the Beaver. [img][/img]
IMO: the beaver would win. That's why I was so upset.
tavalon
(27,985 posts)I wouldn't have written anything silly if my dog was hurt. Actually, I wouldn't have been here if the beaver and Ollie had tussled. Luckily, my water dog hates water and there was a good five feet of water between him and the beaver and they both seemed to realize it.
I'm so sorry I scared you. I knew the rest of the story so I only saw the absurdity of it. Doggy is safely ensconced beside me with his legs up in the air, snoring. Clearly, beaver staring is hard work.
Today, alas, he goes back to his other home. I only have visitation. Though, this was so much fun, I might try to have him more. I was worried that he would be too cramped on this tiny barge but with many walks, he and I have both gotten more than enough leg stretching.

(72,300 posts)How is sleeping on the inflatable mattress working out?
tavalon
(27,985 posts)and with good taping it's better. It's incredibly colorful, but not swollen. I did a good job at RICE. I worked last night without a problem.
Ollie the dog has gone back to the other house. I don't suppose I can realistically take him for another two weeks. Car rides are so hard on him, I don't want to put him through it for a day here or there, but every two weeks, I get 6 days in a row off and after my child comes on Friday, I get Ollie On Saturday until Tuesday. We've been doing it for only two cycles so far but it's been good.
My dog loves the inflatable mattress. I'm not such a fan and I tried to sneak up to my bed yesterday but he started barking until I came down to sleep with him. I think I'm alpha sometimes, other times, I'm pretty sure I'm not. LOL
Thanks for asking.

Maybe the new disqualifying phrase for any broad study without defined boundaries or control group should now be, "well it's just an Internet poll after all".
Not that a random thoughts hump day poll is a bad idea, because it isn't, but the disclaimer is hilarious.

"But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?"
