I LOVE it!

I used to be able to find mincemeat in the store, but not lately.

It is a wonderful pie, and especially at the holidays.

So maybe this time of year you can find mincement. One brand I've seen at the major supermarket here is Crosse & Blackwell. Amazon seems to have it.

Crosse & Blackwell mincemeat gets a bad rap - too sweet with high fructose corn syrup being a main ingredient. There are some other brands that get better reviews, all on Amazon.

And then there are the recipes for 'authentic' mincemeat, some with real meat or with suet in them. Though there were some with lots of fruit that sounded good, especially the pear mincemeat recipe out of the Ball Blue Book that makes about 9-10 pints. http://www.gatheringaroundthetable.com/2008/10/pear-mincemeat-keeper-from-recipe-box.html That would be nearly a decade of mincemeat pies for me if a pint makes a pie! I'd have to make them more often.

Mincemeat Pie was always one of our family's Holiday treats. Mom would keep tasting as she mixed to be sure there was "enough" booze in it. (Maybe a little more.) Hahahaha.

Very hard to find jars of mince in the markets. You've convinced me I must make one or two this year. I'll check on-line for a supplier.

Not bad, but not on my food plan. I don't intend to deviate over the holidays. Did that once years ago, was doing WW, and gained 6-7 pounds. Was too embarrassed to go back until I lost that, well, I went the other way, was up like 60 lbs, and had to go back then. Kinda like now...

Nope, no cheating. It's just food. It's not a friend, confidant, or narcotic.

Reminds me of these:

I must say one has to be careful about how many of these they eat or you could become very constipated if your not. lol

He died about 12 years ago. Damn, I miss my Daddy.

Thank you for triggering a long-lost memory. May you have a happy and memorable holiday season.

They're basic cupcakes with mincemeat (Nonesuch) and coffee added. My mother frosts them with chocolate but I like them unfrosted so I guess they're muffins.

That doesn't seem very modern. But I am having a hard time understanding whether you mean minced fruit, which would still be a fruit pie. Or the one that has meat and fruit.

mincemeat pies I've eaten are all minced fruit; no meat. When you buy "mincemeat" in a jar, it's all fruit. I'm talking about a pie that contains both minced meat and "mincemeat."
