My wife manage to buy a "used" copy of the Miniseries for like $10.
The copy my wife got is basically new. The only thing missing from the case was the shrink wrap. It actually has the small foam pieced to cushion the DVDs which also show signed they have NEVER been removed from the case.
I'm just wondering if my wife bought into the hype and the show she also is a big Tom Hanks fan and wants to see just about everything he's done. So did she waist $10 or am I being too critical?

(8,747 posts)(1) JFK's decision to go to the Moon was quite political. We had to be seen as "Doing something to beat the Russians". At that time, they had an advantage in heavy lift boosters, which could both launch Space Stations, and large thermonuclear weapons. We passed them by with the Saturn V, and the Soviet N1 Moon Rocket was an utter failure.
(2) Then Democratic Senator, later Vice-President Walter Mondale was a fierce opponent of the Manned Space Program. If it had been solely up to him we would have never gone to the Moon. He thought that helping the poor, and ending the Vietnam War were both more important than (manned) Space Exploration. We still have Democrats today like him, right here on DU. Any mention of Space Exploration always brings out those who cry "But X is more important!" or "We should solve our problems right here first!"

(220 posts)Hi,
From The Earth to the Moon is television at it's best. It revels a lot of the story we did not know. From the Earth to the Moon & Band of Brothers are 2 of the best mini-series that HBO produced.

(3,918 posts)I paid a lot more for it and it's worth every penny. My favorite episodes are the first one "Can We Do This?", "Apollo 1", "1968", & "Spider". My #1 episode though is "Is That All There Is" about Apollo 12.

(1,005 posts)But my favorite episode is "Spider and Gumdrop".
The story of how Grumman designed and built the lunar module was my personal favorite, especially as kid, I had to have glasses, and knew I'd never be an astronaut. Being the guy who designed and built the spacecrafts was the closest I could get, and guided my career choices since.
