The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI want to thank everyone who sent us good wishes in Rich's upcoming fight with Malignant Prostrate Cancer. The love
you have shown us through your e-mails and posts touches both of our hearts.I have gotten no empathy from my family . I was told everyone dies and now my sister will have to get a taxi for her "cancer" visit. I hope all goes well with Rich. He seems to be holding it together more then myself. For right now , I can't think of anything funny, different or otherwise to post. Right now it ia not in me. When I feel that I can do it, I will be back . Thank you and love to all of you for the fun I had.

(384 posts)Deb, next month my husband will be a 6 year lung cancer survivor. I remember the surgery, the chemo, the dread when the 3 month, 6 month, and yearly scans and tests were conducted.
Pack a chemo bag full of mints, cross word puzzles, a small notebook and pen, cards, books, iPad, and a warm blanket. I also included warm socks and a hat for my hubbie in his chemo backpack. We took muffins once a week for the staff and other patients and family members.
Last, take time to care for you. This was hard for me because I had to be there for everything until I realized I couldnt do it all by myself and was sooo stressed I could barely cope. It is a whirlwind for sure.
Take advantage of everyone who offers help.
My thoughts are with you. 💕

(1,384 posts)I know how overwhelming it can be when you first hear the news. There is a whole new terminology to learn, which can take awhile. There are lots of resources online, but try to stick with official medical guidance. The Prostate Cancer Foundation has a beginners guide that you can download for free.
If you dont have a medical oncologist, you need one - they know so much more than a urologist and certainly than a GP. It would help greatly to find an oncologist who specializes in prostate cancer and is affiliated with a major medical institution (e.g., Mayo, Johns Hopkins,
).
Youll probably have to make treatment decisions along the way. Ive found that the best online resource for guidance and overall support is this website: https://healthunlocked.com/advanced-prostate-cancer. There is a similar forum on Healthunlocked for those with less advanced prostate cancer. These are men and their families who are dealing with PC and are looking for answers or providing advice based on their experiences. There are also experts on there, especially Tall Allen. Its a great resource.
I hope you dont mind me offering advice. It can be so lonely and confusing at first. Please try to stay hopeful. The great likelihood is that your husband will be with you for a long time.
