Hiking an Ozark trail, I didn't make my campground by dark, so I just threw down a bedroll in the woods. Several hours lated, I hear leaves rustling , then stopped, then a low growl. Shining flashlight, I see two brownish-yellow eyes, then the twenty-pound bobcat behind 'em. All I could think of was to talk gently to him. "Nice kitty, sorry to be un your space, kitty. Good kitty, pretty, kitty...." Then he bugged out, and I had to go to the bathroom.....

Mountain lions are the biggest cats that purr. They also meow, but it's like a chainsmoker saying :Wow."

They're rarely nuisance animals, they're too shy, but they will take dogs out of a back yard when it gets dark.
