(27,247 posts)When I was in junior high band, I think the band director really didn't like me for some reason. Just before Halloween, everyone in band was enlisted to sell "band candy" in various neighborhoods in my town. While some groups were given the popular stuff to sell (fresh Hershey's Miniatures), my group (which was assembled by the band director) was stuck with trying to hawk circus peanuts-- along with candy corn-- that had been left over *from the year before*.
Anyway, that night, at the first house our group went to, the man at the door asked us if we ourselves would like to receive such "treats" for Halloween. I piped up and said, "I tried some of the circus peanuts, and they tasted like crap".

You missed "Hi-Chews" on your list - currently the kidlet's favorite, and those little Mexican Hershey Henry V (sort of a hershey's kiss in a small bar) that are common here in the SW.
As well as Flake, Violet Crumble, and Zero bars. My mom still loves Zeros.
I'm old - so lots of those candies and novelty items were common when I was around, and we had some eclectic trick-or-treat candy dispensers in the various neighborhoods I grew up in. I also spent some time in both Mexico and Canada when I was growing up, and love to hit the "World import" stores (Pier One/World Cost Plus)so I got a lot of different "supermarket check-out" candies to taste over the years whenever I had a hankering for sweets.

(6,011 posts)about 1/2 " across, flat on the bottom w/ slightly rounded top edge, kind of powdery looking surface.
They are sweetened with sorbitol or mannitol, not splenda, aspartame, or saccharin.
I did find the company that makes them, Eda's Sugar Free Hard Candy, but ground shipping from Pennsylvania to California costs $10.00+ for a $6.50 lb. of candy! The online store in California only sells 5 lb. bags.
I called the company and their guy said Marshall's and TJ Maxx should have it now (their food inventories seem sketchy) or the Christmas Tree Shop (not around here).
I want to get some for me and some for my friend and her 97 year old dad.

Hershey's brings non-GMO confections to Europe, but not to US
Friday, December 24, 2010
By Ethan A. Huff, staff writer
(NaturalNews) The Hershey Company is expanding its confectionery market to Europe. And the company plans to reformulate its Europe-destined products to be free of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) in order to meet demand and to comply with the non-GMO requirements of Asda, the U.K. subsidiary of Wal-Mart that will be Hershey's exclusive retailer in the U.K. However, Hershey's has no intentions of changing any of its U.S. formulas, all of which are tainted with GM ingredients, say reports.
According to an email obtained by GMWatch, an independent watchdog group fighting pro-GMO propaganda, Hershey's agreed to reformulate 21 varieties of its chocolate products, including Reese's brand chocolates, to meet Asda's requirements. And a report in Confectionery News confirms this as well, noting that the reformulations are strictly for the European market and not for the U.S. market.
According to reports, Asda does not carry any products that contain GM ingredients, so Hershey's had to agree to work with the company to create appropriate new formulas.
In the past, many large U.S. food producers have argued that reformulating their products to exclude GMOs is not cost effective. But why it was worthwhile for Hershey's to change its product formulas for the European market, but not for the U.S. market, so far remains a question without an answer.

I will spend the rest of the day wondering what I missed. Abba Dabba, Cow Tales and Zotz. They forgot goo goo clusters, millionaires and turtles....but maybe those were high end candies or very regional
