The one with the puppies and kittens that need a home, that makes me melt.
I have two cats already!

(28,394 posts)I want to adopt them all. That is why I can't volunteer at an animal shelter. I went to Petco recently for some doggie toothpaste and almost came home with a cat. I still think about that cat. dammit

(14,061 posts)They tear me up. I also have the constant poor timing of going to the pet store during one of the humane society's adoption drives. I have to just put blinders on, or else I would have a houseful of cats and dogs.
I take solace in the fact that I rescued our cat from the streets, which is more than a lot of other people out there do. Can't save them all, but I saved one.

(46,327 posts)Charlotte I got from a woman who found out the hard way her daughter was horribly allergic to cat dander.
Lucky though was a "street cat" that someone had abandoned, I stopped a dog pack from mauling her, took her home and she's been here for over 10 years now.

(14,061 posts)I wasn't really a cat person until I met Pepper. She just showed up one day in the back of the place I used to work. Sweetest disposition in the world. We later found out that she was pregnant, so we took care of her and her babies. Once the babies got adopted, I took her home.
We estimate she's at least five -- but she's graying fast, so she's probably older. She's been in excellent health, and has been a most wonderful little pet.

(1,013 posts)BUt having fostered so many its not guilt. Which reminds me, we hoped to have a low cost spay neuter, talked to the lady that was going to guide me through it, since the Mayor's already started taking names of folks interested. Timing! Monday night the NWArk. group had a board meeting, BIG fight and when the group decided to fire someone, all 8 of the vets walked out. NO low cost spay neuter here, and the one scheduled for Tuesday, well the doors were locked.

(12,153 posts)and realize that many people can't stand to watch their ads. Because so many people turn channels while the ads are on, or mute the ads and turn away, the ads defeat their purpose.
Everyone I've ever talked to about the ads has felt the way I do about them, and won't watch them either.

(7,365 posts)I don't think I necessarily agree that the results are as you think.
Now, you and I turn the ads. Why is that? Number 1...we KNOW what's coming and #2 we're already sucked in so we're likely already doing some small part to help animals. I am a member of several animal welfare and wildlife protection organizations.
The purpose of the ad I think is for those people who aren't aware of the fact. The emotional aspect is to shock these people into being as sad as we are and possibly opening up their wallets to donate.
