This number is a phishing scam

If this number comes up on your phone, they want to get into your account. Most people are very cautious here, but I find personal satisfaction posting this here. 800 723 5533.

Have a wonderful day--and for us out West ---Think Rain!!!!!

....it is (or at least was as recently as 2011) one of the numbers for Wells Fargo's Fraud department.

What made you think it's a phishing scam?

then they ask for your bank card number. I know most people here don't give out info over the phone, but these guys sound official but are not. Banks will get ahold of you and want to deal in person if there is a problem, they won't use another agency.

in any case is to assume that any authentic institution will at least have the last 4 numbers on your credit card.

Mine do.

So if someone calls, make them tell you what those numbers are before giving them an inch of trust. Even then, call the number on the back of your credit card to verify.

There was a piece on the local news last night where a guy reported a post card scam. Someone sent him a postcard with the usual "You have been selected to win blah blah blah" shit on it. In this case it was supposedly $100 worth of coupons and gift certificates from Walmart. All he had to do was authorize a withdrawal of $5 from his bank account...which means telling them, at the number you have to call...your account information.

Needless to say, he never got what he was promised.

What's sad is that he didn't look real bright, you know?

So some of these scammers get a minimal amount from the bank account just to see if it's valid, then at some later date, clean it out.

People really need to keep a close eye on their elderly or impaired friends/relatives.

I'm hoping that as I get older I stay as suspicious of everyone as I am now...
