Although itcracks me up that in southern Mississippi and Louisiana, Troy is a god. There are bumper stickers and shirts all over the place that say "CHOOT 'IM!"

4. Gar used to scare the crap out of me.

We used to canoe in the bayous around New Orleans, and gar lie just under the surface waiting for insects. When you scare them they flip and dive, and if you're out there waiting for a gator to bump your canoe or a snake to drop off of an overhang it can be a heart thumper!

I've eaten gator as a novelty but I don't think I'd give up catfish for it.

I had a friend whose family hunted gators in season.
