(1,317 posts)As evidence of her candidate's impending victory, her final pre-election column talked about a proliferation of Romney yard signs in "tony Northwest Washington, D.C." That "observation" alone is enough to discredit anything she ever again claims, for eternity. There is not a single precinct in D.C. that gave Obama less than 85 percent. There's a point at which wishful thinking leads to unadulterated fabrication. Congrats, Peggy , on crossing that line!

(594 posts)Supporters. Well, a lot of us Didn't need a yard sign and or a car sticker. I needed to vote. My entire Hispanic family are Obama supporters who turned to the polls on election day to vote.

(13,141 posts)It just boggles my mind that these people are so dumb.
It boggles (and I confess thrills) me that they all
believed Mitt would win up until the last moment.
I haven't any sympathy because I don't think they have
any self-awareness.
If they were shocked stunned and devastated by the loss,
it's a good thing. I think Peggy Noonan is right that
there was something going on with the American
people.. she just sorely misinterpreted it as being
stupidity.

(8,084 posts)to the decision desk guys that's nuts what was she hoping they would take it back??? That would not have changed the reality that the President had won LOL
They are nuts. I wish the Desk had taken it back. Imagine all the Faux viewers believing Romney had won. In fact they can just continuing reporting for the next four years as if Romney is President it will keep the crazies from going nuts

(1,317 posts)I can remember Noonan from her Reagan speech writing days. She wrote the stirring words of comfort he uttered after the '86 space shuttle disaster. Disagree with her politics, sure, but she had a gift with the word.
But by ensconcing herself in the alternate reality that is the Fox bubble, she has transmogrified into a clueless and thoroughly uninformed and uninformative hack. She "feels" the crowd's enthusiasm at Romney rallies; does she even remember that same unscientifically quantified "surge" that was reported at the Mondale rallies in the campaign rallies immediately preceding his record landslide loss? She also wrote about "vibrations" and "sensing" good things. Lots of anecdotal nonsense.
Noonan and those other "educated," blindfold-wearing, self-deluded and self-styled psephologists like George F. Will and Michael Barone really need to get to know their country better in general. It might not be a bad idea too for them to consult with pollsters without the last name Rasmussen.
Noonan has on her own developed into what a social commentator or pundit fears most: thoroughly inconsequential. She has heaped yet one more shovelful onto the rising peak of Bullshit Mountain.
Should we not expect better from the conservative "thinkers"? If I were a Republican strategist and really wanted to win next time through sounding out my prospective constituency, I'd trade 10 Noonans for the thoughts of, say, a randomly selected independent-leaning woman from a Northeast or Midwest suburb. I don't think many such voters were at those last Romney rallies.

(1,317 posts)The first minute or so of the video, after she's asked her impressions, she gives an exceedingly anodyne answer and wraps it up by saying how it's "fascinating" that people with whom she's acquainted (doormen? barstool buddies? Dick Morris?) "genuinely" don't know who's going to win. She calls her opening remark her "Ur Thought," as if to suggest there's some sort of fundament of profundity in her random, everyday musings. She might've left it at and looked almost reasonable if not especially keen or insightful. But for the next 3 minutes, given the rope of more airtime, she opts to hang herself in expanding the observation to suggest an unsupported "feeling" of a Romney wave.
"Ur Thought" or "er ... thought"?
Sorry Peggy, you arrogant piece of work, now she and all her little right wing friends, George Will, etc will go on ABC, Sunday and say " oh well, we got it wrong huh" ......yup you did

(8,200 posts)Every article and pundit that I heard were saying how close this election was. They said that the young people won't come out to vote. They actually exceeded the last election turn out. They didn't take into account that the minorities would react to the Republicans' attempt to suppress the vote with renewed determination. It is simply a fact that the corporate owned media is only interested in revenue and their hacks will not say anything to alienate any segment. It would just be bad business.
ginnyinWI
(17,276 posts)I think that, plus early voting this time around, made a big difference. The Obama team went under the assumption that it would be a close race and looked for new voters everywhere.
The networks absolutely told their views what they wanted them to hear. Fox told theirs that Romney had it in the bag, and ABC-CBS-NBC told theirs that it was too close to call, neck-and-neck, a squeaker, etc etc.
But why is Bob Sheiffer still saying it? Why is he asking if Obama really has a mandate?
