these Republican senators who claim not to be so very Republican nevertheless vote in lockstep with their party on all the important votes. By playing all of his "I am the second most bipartisan senator in Washington" clips, she allows that false message to get out to liberal viewers of her show, some of whom might be in Massachusetts and might be thus encouraged to let him retain his seat.

Brown is deliberately allowed by R leadership to vote against them as long as his vote won’t matter, because they know he has to do something to maintain the illusion of his moderation and bipartisan reasonableness for the voters of Massachusetts. But when his vote would actually make a difference, he votes with them, and he is required by the leadership to vote with them.
