1. Yes, it's possible but not probable

I've said all along that the wheeling and dealing of Paulbots versus the plutocracy backed Romney team is going to create enough division in the party that 2016 will be a total bloodbath.

This has all happened before to other Hamiltonian parties that made deals with devils to grab power.

I don't believe the coming rethug convention will sail through on calm waters.

Ron Paul for Veep!

Stranger things have happened. The GOOP convention should be very interesting indeed. Implosion anyone?

and they want Mitt. I also think they're going to ride roughshod all over the Paul people. This is going to set up another bitter division in that party and I don't think it's going to be healed, not this time.

If Mitt is persuaded to allow a bible beating bleater to be draped around his neck like a rotting albatross in the second spot, they might forestall the break with social conservatives, but I'm making no predictions there, either.

having the delegates to win the nomination is a whole other issue.

Although I relish the prospect of a contentious Republican convention, that's not why I'm in favor of this.
When did conventions turn into coronations?
It seems to me that in my lifetime we've gone from party-based presidential races to personality-based ones.
I still favor the many over the one. The chosen candidate should reflect the party's platform not the other way around.

Love to see Paul with a counter speech blasting the hypocrisy of the architect of RomneyCare decrying ObamaCare, even if Paul is coming at it from the other direction of the NoCare position. Not to mention all Mitts other flip-flops he'd have to defend.

8. Usually what happens in such a situation is that the dissident candidate is "bought off" in some way

Typically by being given an advantageous speaking slot.

and the Republican Leaders refuse to follow their own rules and it throws everything on their side into total chaos.

I picture boos when Romney takes to the podium and mass ejections of delegates turning into blows traded on both sides.

Imagine the spectacle of Ron Paul supporters coming out of the convention literally bloodied when they did everything according to the rules.

But on the other hand, if Rethug leaders decide to change or alter convention rules in order to suppress or muzzle Ron Paul supporters, then I could easily see Ron Paul's VERY LOYAL supporters disrupt the convention by heckling and booing Romney as he takes the stage. Such a spectacle would be viewed by millions of republican voters as well as Democrats and Independents.

13. It's the "divided party" thing.

Shockingly, the Democrats are united while the Republicans are spit into waring factions for a change.

I'm thinking 1968 Chicago. Bobby Kennedy had just been assassinated and the Democrats picked a hawk when their base was anti-war. The images of the police riot outside were used by Nixon who claimed he would restore law and order (the bastard was probably behind it all).

If the Republicans brawl with each other it's over for them and that is not unthinkable given the way they have whipped their base into a frenzy. Hell, they're even allowing guns outside of their convention. This could get VERY ugly.

You couldn't pay me to be anywhere near that place.

14. I don't get why Paulites hate Mitt Rob-me so much.
Sun Jul 8, 2012, 01:16 AM

Is it because of Romneycare in MA? Both he and Ron Paul seem in-line with one another in almost all of their policies. For example, they both want to slash taxes on the rich while cutting the safety net and public education. They both oppose gay rights and are anti-choice. They both support more oil drilling. They oppose amnesty, and they want to deregulate banking and markets. Both of these guys are candidates who want to cater to the elites, so I don't see why they won't just fall in line behind Rob-me. But, whatever...I'm not complaining. This infighting between Republicans only increases Obama's chances at re-election!

15. I would think its mainly because Willard is far removed from being like most Paulite supporters.

Ron Paul on releasing his tax filings:

"....I don't have any intention of doing it but for a different reason,....I would be probably embarrassed to put my financial statement up against their incomes and I don't want to be embarrassed because I don't have a greater income....

...I don't think people need that because nobody is challenging me because I have no conflict of interest and I don't even talk to lobbyists and I don't take that kind of money...."

Simply put,.....Willard is just NOT one of them!
