The Arab Spring, Iran's nuclear programme and the ongoing Middle East turmoil are just three things that put the world in a spin during 2011 - and got tempers flaring at the UN's most-powerful body. Next, RT hears how reacting to these major events will pan out in 2012, with a man at the heart of it all - Russia's Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin.

Too bad that was not done with those pushing for the Iraq War which criminally slaughtered hundreds of thousands of innocent human beings.
I did not support Democrats to get what we got from Bush, so I hope sincerely this does not happen.

(283 posts)If Iran closes an international sea lane, which our 5th Fleet regularly uses...they will have started the war. The act of 'closing' the strait will require some action by the Iranians....boarding a tanker, sinking a tanker, etc. I don't know where they are going with this - they have to know there would be a response...so I don't think they will really close the strait. Maybe its just a play to bump of the cost of oil futures.
But no, we aren't going to bomb Iran over saber rattling...but would have no choice but to respond to real action by the Iranians.

(62,325 posts)Why is this country pushing for sanctions against Iran?? Have they attacked this country, threatened to attack it? And if another country were to threaten our economy, remember Iraq? Those sanctions killed over half a million Iraqi children. What would the US do if such a threat were made against it?
Are we supporting Bush's theory now that the US can do whatever it wants, no matter how much harm it causes to other innocent people, but no one else has the right to respond and should just lie down and take it?
If we do not want them to shut down the Strait, then stop with the saber rattling which has been going on for over ten years now. I thought we were going to change these policies.
