(32,324 posts)I haven't noticed any major earthquakes here in California. I do know that not one but two storm fronts were minimized while this carbon monoxide release was noted.
The first storm was supposed to hit Northern Calif. Friday evening with rain throughout the night. Instead we only got some few showers on Saturday morning.
And there was supposed to be more rain Sunday, and that did not happen either.
So maybe it is something else than a release by the earth itself. (Hmmm.)

(12,977 posts)I posted a link on an earlier thread on this. I'm skeptical at this point, because there have been a lot of major earthquakes recently without this sort of gas release. But if it is valid, the window extends out several more days.

Most Californians would not consider this to be a major quake. In recent past years, I have had larger quakes with an epicenter one block from my home, and no mention of it on the nightly news out of San Francisco, some 90 miles away.

(801 posts)There is no known scientific relationship between carbon monoxide, CO and earthquakes. CO is a half-way combustion product on the way to carbon dioxide, CO2.
There is almost no CO in our atmosphere (note: 80% nitrogen, only 19% oxygen). CO quickly combines with oxygen to become CO2.
The risk to mammals is that the CO combines with the haemoglobin and does not released in the lungs, like CO2 does. Hence, redblood cells die and can no longer transport O2. It takes whole lot of CO to kill.
The most common source of CO is from cigarette smoking. Bad as smoking may be, no smoker has ever died from CO.

(493 posts)Here in Tacoma/Seattle are we have been aware of the "Big" one that is supposed to hit us one day, to be frank this scares the hell out of me. The very last words the gentleman says, is "heads up, be safe !"
