... in a coffee house called the King's Rook on State Street in Marblehead, Massachusetts when it first came out. I believe Gil can legitimately lay claim to being the first rapper.

Any old Marbleheaders out there in DU-land?

Centerville down on the Cape and I was born over the Mystic R. on US1. When this came out though, I was living in Nashua, NH and listening to WBCN. It really caught my attention as did this one:

Because I sing, I learn the lyrics in the beginning, given the times back then, they really opened my eyes about how many of us were speaking out.

4. Music at Thanksgiving 1972

First time I heard this I was 20.
Denver Colorado.
Potluck Thanksgiving dinner with a tribe of 20 or 30 politically radicalized street kids / hippies.
Some of still here. Many are not.

The playlist included at least

Gil Scott Heron
Bitches Brew
Santana
Rolling Stones
The Kinks
John Lee Hooker
Sly and the Family Stone
J. Geils Band.

We had the right politics and the best music. Both Timeless.

Peace and Love and Take No Shit.

Mammoth Gardens
Red Rocks
Family Dog
Denver Pop Festival at Mile Hi Stadium
Anti War Protests
Pre LoDo
Bonnir Brae pizza
Blue Bonnet
Saphire Lounge on Colfax. Hell, Colfax - street of dreams
When El Chapultepec was a real dive bar.

I moved in 1986 and am just amazed when I come back to visit. But of course everything and everywhere changes.

Denver was a very cool and special place. I have lived in SoCal and Nevada since and never found anything close.

Peace
